This is a place devoted to giving you deeper insight into the news, trends, people and technology behind Bing.
Looks like most of the people are having the same problem. I have read through all the TOC and don't think I violated any of the conditions. But I have the same problem too.
My account also was closed just as I was about to redeem for a gift card. They gave me the cut and paste "you violated TOS" but never told me exactly what I did. I have no idea. I use my work laptop at lunch to search on Bing Rewards and never had an issue until I had over 250 pts and ready to redeem for my goal. Not cool.
I replied back to my email from Bing asking what specifically I did wrong - doubt I'll hear anything. Very poor service Microsoft.
Most of my colleagues are having the same problem. We were using bing at our work place to seach some technical stuff mean while earning the rewards in parallel. Looks like bing has some lame detection system that is not able to differentiate real users with fake ones. I was member for a long time and suddenly my account got banned. When open the ticket I get the same copy paste thing. First of all poor customer support and secondly this looks like cheating the users to use bing for at least 2 months and ban the account one we are ready to place orders. I am disappointed of such a big firm don this cheating to users. I am going to post it everywhere that is possible. I switched to google and not bothering about these rewards and I am much more happier with the results.
Everyone is absolutely right!! I was banned for using Bing to search for anything and everything. I demanded a reason for this absurd banishment 3 times. I received the same copy and paste excuse, as did everyone else. That is terrible Microsoft!! Google it is!!
Exact same situation here. I switched from Google to Bing as my default search engine in Safari last week to try it out. I saw the rewards program stuff, so signed up for it. Within a day, my account was "closed" for no reason. I contacted customer service, and got the same general TOS reply.
I replied to that message saying they came to that conclusion in error, also replying back to each bullet point in the TOS list showing how I did NOT violate any of the terms, and that started a string of copy/paste emails back and forth with a different Bing customer service rep every time.
The kicker? The most recent reply, after going back and forth, was almost an exact copy of the very first email, complete with the "if you believe we have reached this conclusion in error, contact customer service"... ummm... what do you think this entire conversation was?
I have switched back to Google.
Just did it to me too. Cancelled my whole families accounts. Stuff you MS. Typical MS, give you some hope then bend you over and screw you.
MS closed my account after 250 pts also.
After emailing to support, the problem was corrected and my account has been reactivated. They have been really friendly and helpful this time.
so here's my story - in October Bing ran a program where if you did the "bonus search" at least 25 times you received a bonus of 25 credits at the end of the month. Well my family had 6 accounts, by accident I had created 2 accounts with my email address - one through FB and one through MS Live login. Bing caught this when I sent an email regarding never receiving the bonus credits. They advised me that I had to close one of the accounts associated with my email address, so I did, but they did credit both accounts with the bonus credits, so either way I would get the credits. So now, about a week and a half later, all of my families accounts have been closed, and our most recent prize redemption have been cancelled. Weirder still, my husband, one of my daughters and my son all received emails stating that their mailing addresses have been changed, and if we didn't change them to contact support immediately. So we tried to do this (because we didn't change the addresses), but the accounts have been closed. I realize that I violated the TOS, they advised me to fix it the problem and I did. I appreciated that. But now they closed all of our accounts anyways?
I personally think they have been heavy handed with their carrot and stick approach. Firstly, they lure people to the program and then become heavy handed when the rules are bend a little bit. I guess rules are rules. However, if the numbers of loyal customers they are losing outweighs their program, they might have change of heart and alter some of the terms of condition and become more flexible in their approach.
Same here. Sigh.
Very sad indeed, I feel for you guys
Terrible program and support ... no wonder Bing is still behind Google's shadow ... Go for Google
Indeed, I still used Google primarily while maintaining a Bing rewards account. I made the mistake of registering the other people at my residence (not exceeding the 5 for the household) and received swift permabans (no notification) without the possibility of making new accounts (they instantly become banned).
This system is bogus and I have received $15 in Amazon cards from Swagbucks in a week of less "trouble". All this accomplished was driving me back to Google for good :) Thanks for the eye opener and zero warning, Bing!
Seasons greetings to all!
Basically, my account was active and working up to and until I entered the Windows Phone 8X sweepstakes. The DAY AFTER I entered the contest, I had trouble logging in. This was after sharing the contest (i.e., advertising it for MS) on twitter and emailing it to friends, as requested after I entered.
So either Microsoft are punishing people for promoting a contest posted on THEIR website, or they just like to mess with people.
I never got a message stating my account was closed or a reason why it was closed. It is just closed now.
I never violated the agreement and I basically don't touch Bing Rewards unless I am trying to gain something. The sharing of the contest information was done as suggested by Microsoft.
This company has gone to crap, IMHO. If this is how they treat paying customers, then maybe they should just continue to lose ground to Linux and Apple the way they are now. It's only for the best. It'll be good if they get knocked off of their throne so that they can finally see the error of their ways.
I am done with Microsoft.

The best part of this entire experience is that they require a Bing account for you to contact support. At least, every time I click the "Contact Support" button on the site, it asks me to log in and I can't since my account is closed. For no reason.
Well, I also find that my Bing Reward account is closed for no reason. Sigh. Microsoft is quite harsh to all Bing users. This only creates opportunities for users to use Goggle Search.
