    Bing for Mobile Goes HTML5

Today, we’re excited to announce the next step in the evolution of Bing for Mobile, with the release of the new Bing for Mobile app for iPhone and Android (coming soon to more devices). Today’s update uses HTML5 to blend the mobile browse experience with the app experience so you get a consistent and fast mobile search experience whether you’re using m.bing.com from your browser or the Bing app. Rather than tightly binding functions into a mobile client, we want to embrace the drive towards exposing our functions via an HTML5 experience. In order for search to advance, engines need to be able to call functions that are currently ‘hiding’ in apps so we can better help people get done what they are trying to get done. Using HTML5, our goal is to build a mobile experience that leverages the unique capabilities of the different platforms including camera support and voice search, while making the functions the apps can provide consistent across the platforms and – in the future – callable by engines to help people get from searching to doing. Check out this video where Andy and Stefan talk about this transition to an HTML5 mobile experience... Windows Phone 7.5: Bing(o) on Mango

As the Windows Phone 7.5 update, code name “Mango,” rolls out to customers, we are excited to get our hands on what is an elegant, intuitive experience that places the user at the center of the experience. Not surprisingly, what excites us the most is what the team has done with Bing on the new Windows Phone experience. With that in mind, we wanted to highlight some of our favorite features: Beyond the Search Box Bing on Windows Phone now transcends the search box. No longer limited by text, you can now search with voice, audio and vision. Voice : Search without typing using the voice search functionality. Music Search : Find what song is playing by letting you phone "listen" to the music. It not only shows you the name, artist, and album, but even shows you where you can hear or buy it. Bing Vision : You can now use your phone’s camera to look up product information by bringing an object into view. Bing will recognize text and present the option to select words for a search, and instantly return product results if the object has a barcode. Bing Vision can also detect product information from UPC codes, QR Codes and MS Tag as well as cover art for... Bing for BlackBerry app update issues

Last week, we released an update to our app to address feedback from you about Bing failing to return results when your device latches onto an unauthenticated network (e.g. at your local coffee shop) After rolling out the update however, we observed an issue with the cache servers hosting our application. Over the weekend, you may have encountered an incomplete or corrupt installation as you tried to update the Bing app. We’ve rolled out a fix for this issue, but some of you are already affected and are unable to launch Bing. We want to make this right. To get Bing back, please uninstall Bing , reboot the device and then download the Bing app from the BlackBerry App World. To uninstall Bing: 1. From phone's home screen, select Options 2. Select "Applications" 3. Highlight Bing from the application list, then press menu 4. Select "Delete" from menu 5. Select "Yes" when prompted to restart Once the device is restarted, you can launch the App World and search for ‘Bing’ to download the latest version. Thank you for using Bing and don’t hesitate to contact us directly at rimfeed@microsoft.com if you have any questions. Bing for BlackBerry... Learn How to Use the Location Feature in...

Bing has some great features for BlackBerry smartphone users. We often get asked by users how to make the most of the Bing app on their phone. Using the location settings in Bing helps you get search results using Bing that are based on where you are in real-time. Today we are going to cover how to use this feature. Setting Your Current Location in Bing There are two ways to set your current location in Bing: let Bing detect your location using location services like GPS; or, manually set your location by searching from the “change location” screen. 1. Location Detection When you first launch Bing app, a dialog box will ask permission to allow Bing to access and store your location. When you select allow at this prompt, Bing checks to see if location services are enabled on your device. If the location services are not enabled on your BlackBerry device you will need to manually set them by: on your BlackBerry device go to Options -> Device -> Location Settings -> set the Location services to “Location On” .
