Today, we’re excited to announce that Bing and Klout are partnering to help enrich the discovery and recognition of influencers across our platforms. This is an alliance based on a shared belief that people are at the center of task completion. To help you find the right person we need to determine who is influential and trusted on different topics on the web. Bing and Klout share this vision. In addition to the technical partnership described below, we are announcing that we are making a strategic investment in Klout. Guest Post: Some Tech Habits Need To Be...

If biting your fingernails took up eight hours of your time every day, would you — could you — give it up? What if the way you're using email or web search is robbing even more hours, days, even weeks of your precious time? Think you could make a change? A recent round of surveys about how we're spending our precious time online shows that most of us are doing the high-tech equivalent of chewing our nails to the quick every day, without even realizing it. From getting sucked-in to social media, to throwing away whole hours surfing the web like it's 1999 , today’s technology should help save time, not just waste it. As a Tech Life Editor and modern-mom on the go, I’m always looking for ways to save time, money, and sanity. So when Bing dared me to take the Bing It On Challenge, and bet that I would be so surprised by the results that I would give up a certain “search giant that shall not be named” for good, I took the challenge head-on. And guess what – they were right. Bing won. Time and time again, the little search engine that could – did. While replacing any bad habit with a good one takes a little time to get used to - I've already... The Bing It On Challenge Takes on LA with...

Bing’s first Bing It On Challenge event was held at The Grove in Los Angeles late last week. Extra host Maria Menounos and Derek Hough from Dancing with the Stars are used to competing on television and yesterday they brought the spirit of competition to the streets of Los Angeles. Bing, alongside Maria & Derek, challenged the people of LA to the national Bing It On Challenge live from the Grove. Many shoppers were surprised to learn that in a blind comparison test people chose Bing’s web search results over Google nearly 2:1.* And, many Google lovers were shocked that they chose Bing. In true Challenge style, if proclaimed Google lovers chose Bing in the blind comparison test, they had to spin a wheel of challenges for the taking. Derek and Maria led fun activities including an arm wrestling match, silly string war, pull-up contest, hula hoop competition and more, while promoting the Bing It On Challenge. Amidst many Bing It On Challenges – which you can take online or at Microsoft Stores nationwide – there were several hilarious highlights of the day, which you can see in the video recap below. Search Quality Insights: Behind the Bing...

As I mentioned in my original post there has never been a more exciting or challenging time to be in the search space. The core to a great search engine has been and will always remain the same: delivering relevant, comprehensive and unbiased results that people can trust. We use thousands of signals from queries to documents and user feedback to determine the best search results and in turn make hundreds of improvements to our features every year, from small tweaks to core algorithm updates. In this series, you have heard from our Chief Scientist Dr. Jan Pedersen who summarized our efforts on whole page relevance , and Dr. Richard Qian who covered the techniques we employ to reduce junk links . More recently, Dr. William Ramsey described how we reduce defects in links and related searches and Dr. Kieran McDonald’s post examined answers quality utilizing specialized classifiers. These are just a few examples of the myriad algorithm changes that we’ve developed to enhance Bing over the years. With all of these changes we’ve made some great progress in Bing search quality for our customers. You will notice we have released a fun, non-scientific tool for customers...
