Don’t Get Scroogled: Bing Launches Campaign...

That Holiday Feeling Even after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you might walk the halls around your office at lunchtime and still find a lot of your colleagues shopping online for the holidays. And they’ll be in good company. This year, according to shop.org, online sales will jump 12% over last year to $96 billion dollars this holiday season. Because nearly half of all that online shopping will start from search engines, we wanted all consumers to understand exactly what happens when they use search to find those deals. Specifically, we want to alert you to what Google has done with their shopping site right in time for Christmas. Instead of showing you the most relevant shopping search results for the latest coffee maker you’re looking to buy mom, Google Shopping now decides what to show you – and how prominently to display what product offers they show -- based partially on how much the merchant selling the product has paid them. Merchants can literally pay to improve their chances to display their product offers higher than others inside of Google’s shopping “search,” even if it’s not better or cheaper for the consumer. The result... Take the Bing Homepage with you: Now you can take the iconic Bing Homepage with you. The lock screen image on Windows Phone 8 automatically retrieves the image of the day so you have something fresh, beautiful and dynamic to look forward to at the start of everyday. App Connect and Store Search: Ever wonder which app does what? Bing has you covered. Bing search results now return Windows Phone Store apps that are relevant to what you’re searching. For example, when you search for movie times, Bing will show you several of the top movie apps. Bing also powers search for both apps and games in the Store. A Look Back: Election Week 2012

As one of the most hotly contested elections in history came to its dramatic conclusion this week, we wanted to share some interesting stats that show just how engaged voters were with some of the online tools available to keep them in the know this election. ComScore revealed that almost 32 million people visited Bing and MSN to say informed on Election Day, with over 308 million pages viewed.* Here’s a snapshot of some other interesting things we measured internally: While TV has long been the dominant medium for election coverage, our data also revealed that a significant audience was also looking for a second screen experience on election night. Bing Elections: Behind the Bing Elections...

In addition to providing comprehensive election news and real-time results, Bing Elections also provides unique social media insights and analysis. And as we count down to Election Day, social media buzz on the candidates, parties, issues, results and more are only intensifying. As a way to help people make sense of the noise, we created and report discussion levels for every major elections topic popping across Twitter on Bing Elections. This discussion level scale is sourced by something that we call the Bing Social Media Interest Richter Scale, which categorizes the level of buzz on the presidential candidates across key issues popping in Twitter. The three levels are chatter (every day levels), discussion (an event), and hot (a major event). Generically, the discussion levels provide you with an easy to understand scale for how much social media is discussing a given person, sets of people, topics, etc. To provide transparency to these values, below is a snapshot of the Bing Social Media Interest Richter Scale, the proprietary tool, which we use to gauge discussion levels.
