To every trip, there is a season

It’s common sense that most places around the world make better travel destinations at some times of the year than at others. Take Walt Disney World in Orlando: Summertime there not only comes with baking heat and stifling humidity, but that’s also when kids are out of school and the place is packed to the gills. If you can make it to Orlando in May, September or October, however, you’re likely to be blessed with lovely weather and manageable crowds, making for a much more pleasant experience.

Just in time for your start-of-year vacation planning, a new Bing Travel slide show gives you the scoop on the best time to visit 14 of the world’s best travel spots. They include New Orleans (right before Mardi Gras), London (June and July), New York City (fall) and Las Vegas (just about any time).

I’m partial to Scandinavia at midsummer, when the sun shines almost continuously and the temperatures are at their most delightful. What do you think is the best time of year to visit your favorite destination? Share your thoughts with fellow travelers in the comments section.

  • Chikmagalur - one of the best hillstation in india

    www.chikmagalurinfo.net

Nested in the Baba Budan hills, Chikmagalur is a calm, serene town full of scenic surprises: hills, valleys, streams and the aroma of coffee wafting in the misty air. This famous coffee town, is located at a height of over 1900 meters in a luxuriant valley south of the Baba Bundangiri range. Blessed with silver cascades of mountain streams, rugged mountain trails and lush vegetation, Chikmagalur is a trekker's delight.

The district housed fascinating monuments of all religions - the Kondadarama Temple, a beautiful blend of Hoysala and Dravidian styles of architecture, the Jamia Mosque and the new St. Joseph's Cathedral with an attractive shell-shaped portico. An ancient fort and its moat are the other places of interest.

  • Just returned from a trip that included seeing Rome the last week of November. Weather was pleasant in low 60's. Crowds were non exsistent. We were warned about long lines at the Vatican and Sistine Chaple. We walked straight in to both, barely broke stride as we entered the Vatican museum. Payed at least a third less for hotels than the guide books had prepared us to pay. It is an excellent time to visit if one has a light jacket, and air conditioning was not the issue it sometimes is in Rome.

  • Rome, Italy?

  • When is the best time to tour Greece?

  • Gatlinburg, TN and Asheville, NC- When is the best times to travel to these destinations?

  • Julie - I live in Hershey and think May and early June are perfect for weather and spring greenery, and again the 3rd week in October (for fall foliage).  Later in June through the summer can get humid - although the farms are lovely looking all summer long. By mid-September the worst of the hot spells has typically passed. To avoid the crowds at HersheyPark, visit before school lets out (early June) and after school starts again (3rd week in August).

  • When is the best time to travel to Central America?

  • When is the best time to go on A Mediteraine cruise? Like greece, rome, etc...

  • I would avoid late June through beginning to mid-Sept. in Italy and Greece if you want to avoid the heat and the tourist crush.  I love May and Sept. for Europe. April and October would be my next choice.  And Xmas in the alps is magical.
