So true! Whistler is a blast to go to, and an easy trip out of Seattle, where we're based. If you're in the city here, check out some of the local spots like Crystal Mountain and Stevens Pass, which have great skiing and are awesome spots for a day trip—basically they turn Seattle into a fun ski town. We have some maps of Crystal (www.destination360.com/.../crystal-mountain) and others, and you can see that they aren't as big and don't have as many runs as the major resorts, but hanging out on Mount Rainier and then heading back to Seattle for some of the city's great restaurants is a pretty cool way to spend a weekend.
Breckenridge, CO. is the best. Great food, apre ski and not in the least, shopping!
Telluride deserves to be there, but so does Durango, Colorado, if you are truly doing "hip" ski towns. Aspen and Vail are too expensive to be cool any more, and Vail (Disneyland in the Rockies) never was cool, anyway. Aspen was still cool while the Hotel Jerome (now $500./night) was still a flophouse.........
