This is a place devoted to giving you deeper insight into the news, trends, people and technology behind Bing.
From today, we’re rolling out a series of new updates designed to help you get things done even quicker than before.
Peter Maxmin, head of Bing UK added, “Most of us would like to spend less time searching for information online, as, let’s face it, there is more to life than search. We want to make your search experience quicker and easier so you can get on with the important stuff.”
The first thing you will notice is a new slicker, cleaner design starting with the homepage, which allows for a much larger homepage image.
In addition the results themselves are cleaner. Removing the information on the left of the page and minimising the header raises the level of consistency and predictability while making it easier for you to scan the page and quickly find the information you want. Increasing the space between lines improves readability and optimises the page for touch devices.
The new experience is more than skin-deep. You will also notice faster page-load times and improved relevance under the hood. After all, Bing’s goal is to help you spend less time searching and more time doing. Changing how Bing looks is the next big step in doing just that.
Please can you improve the Bing bar email icon; I would like it a lot if we can read the entire email and perhaps even be able to write new/reply emails from the Bing bar instead of opening a new window! MAKE BING AND RELATED APPLICATIONS THE FASTEST KNOWN BROWSER!
The solitary man is contemplating the water held in his cupped hands, not holding a book (as you have stated on two of the picture links)
Why is my icon a non-descript profile picture? How can I change that to my Windows LIve profile picture?
Also, will we be getting social network integration any time soon?
Please bring more features from the US over to the UK. Trending topics, Facebook, better image search.
Looking good, glad to see it works in all my browsers too!
Now if only you could get the mobile site to render properly so that it no longer looks like this:
desmond.imageshack.us/.../scaled.php
For your information I'm using a HTC Sensation XE (Android 4.0.3) with Opera Mobile 12.0.3
I also use Opera Mobile on my tablet (Android 4.0.4) and the mobile site renders perfectly so it seems to be a problem with this particular screen resolution.
Apologies for the double post, this time the link works:
Love the new look
I agree with Henry "Please bring more features from the US over to the UK. Trending topics, Facebook, better image search"
Can you make the header image in the search results slight bigger, looks really odd at the moment, also, why is my profile pic a place holder one???
Also, where has all the cool HTML5 features gone that you were showing off last year???
Otherwise, you've just made Bing even more beautiful than it was......which is impressive
Sure hope you improved relevance. 9/10 times Bing will return useless results and google on the same query will return exactly what I'm looking for. Only time Bing actually succeeds in returning something useful is if it's a very popular query. (i.e. try just about any query on anything to do with programming. Bing is absolutely useless, even to find stuff on Microsoft's own blogs etc.! Google on the other hand is excellent.
I agree with Henry's comments - " Please bring more features from the US over to the UK ". If Google can do it then why can't Microsoft with Bing. Other than that it looks good.
I have a few other comments as well - with the home page you have "Show All" and "Only from United Kingdom". These should be "sticky" once selected the option shoud stay the same very time you load Bing to search until the other option is selected,
The other issue I have is with preferences - it is inconsistent on the left hand side. You have the following options "Genereal, Web, Search History, News, Maps, and Worldwide". "News and Maps" go to the actual News and Maps web pages while the other go to the correct preferences as described. This needs to be fixed by either having News and Maps preference pages or them taken out of the list.
Where has the preview of each website gone that used to display on the right when you hovered over a result? Most vital (and why I still cannot use Bing) is the need to filter results by date. It is crazy that this still doesn't exist.
It looks great so far and I like the fact its been made clearer to sign in to get more updates during searching.
I'd have to agree with everyone here that this new design is a great improvement, but have one major worry: the links at the top of the page. As soon as you enter search results, maps etc., the links become clean, metro-styled all-caps, which is consistent with the whole website's design, but on the homepage they still look like the old Bing. This bar along the top is seen by users as a consistent part of the website's UI (and it was previously perceived that the content underneath it changed and not the bar), but it now looks inconsistent.
@TIM you can filter by date, but it's only on certain information. They did a video about this, when the updated the US version. The majority of users did not use it. But they are seeing where people use it the most and then implementing it on that query.
@Henry. Thanks for the info. Perhaps they can answer all the angry people here then:
www.bing.com/.../9533157.aspx
99 posts so far asking for the filter by date option.
You are right that it appears (very rarely) seemingly at random. What is the use of that?! Say I search for "M4 congestion" when planning a journey, I get stories of M4 congestion from years ago. With no date filter that is completely useless.
