Again....301 Redirect issue with Bing...going crazy here

This question is answered

Its been almost 2 months now since we setup our 301 redirects and I've talked with several webmasters on this board all claiming to be patient...I thought we were making progress because when you typed in our domain.com it was pointing to the correct home page but now it's reversed and pointing back to our old url index. I don't get it!

Our redirects are setup properly off the server and work fine without any issues on other engines, Bing is the only engine that is giving us a hard time. It would be nice to get some more traffic...

Can someone see if BIng is encountering issues with our 301 redirect?

Here's our domain: http://bit.ly/atdJvM

Cheers!

I just verified this with our indexing team. The 200 response code is the likely cause of your frustration.

  • You still have a redirect chain from your non-www to your www and then to /storev2/

Bing has a history of not liking that.

  • ru serious. Alright let me see what's going on...thanks for the support!

  • She's right

  • Currently, this is what I saw while trying to open your site:

    "Access forbidden!

You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server. "

  • Hi Yasirwazir,

can I ask whether or not you're in North America?

    If not,

which country because we have a country blacklist we use...

    If yes,

could you please forward me a screen shot of what you're seeing. We started using a new commerce platform back in Jan 10 and still might be having some issues...

    Cheers

I am trying to access your site from Pakistan. Are you blocking visitors based on IP?

  • Ray_Ray,

I think the issue is not the redirect chain, but may be due to relative page ranks and the way you are redirecting those old urls. When I run a site query, I see both the old urls and new storev2 urls. Doing some research, I noticed those old pages 301 redirect to the new /storev2/ , but the page this directs to looks like a custom/ soft 404 page providing us with a 200 code.

While we do suggest the use of custom 404 pages,we suggest changing the http code your server is sending to a 404 response code. Doing so will encourage us to remove those old urls from our index.

  • Ok your good now.

We do block based on IP Country Block.

    Cheers

  • Alrighty we'll give this go and hopefully it'll work.

Thanks for the all support folks it was much appreciated.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks Brett.

    Have a fantastic day!

  • Hi Brett we've removed the remaining double hops from the domain so that part is done but we are having some difficulties reproducing the 200 response code. The tests we have done on the custom 404 pages look to be returing valid 404 responses and none of our tests can reproduce the 200 response code.

Without an example we're at a loss on this one.

    Cheers!
