MSNBot & Bing Metatag

This question has suggested answer(s)

The Description metatag is very important in Bing search engine

<META NAME=”Description” CONTENT=”Place your description here” />

MSNBot reads its content and based on that (in addition to keywords found on page) judges how to classify your site. So if you leave this tag empty (i.e. CONTENT=””), you have missed a vital chance to be noticed by MSN. There is no evidence that MSN uses the other metatags in its algorithm that is why leaving the Description metatag empty is even more unforgivable.

What do you think of it.

    I disagree

    The description meta tag (as you say yourself) is not used in ranking.  It's merely used as a snippet under the title of the page in search results, and there's no guarantee it'll be used for that.

    My further thoughts on meta tags are here:

  • I agree with what Archie said.

    Search Engines [at least Google, and I believe other major SEs too] do not use this meta tag in their ranking algo: You can find some good information in this article:

  • How come "Description" text contents that are related to the search keywords are highlighted on Google SERPs?

  • Anais, where did you get this information from? Can you share with us?
