Microsoft Research has been working with Virtual Earth to develop a cool new application for overlaying information in the Map Control. Chris explains it better than I can: "The basic idea is that you can take any map in PDF format and overlay onto a Virtual Earth map. The benefit being that you can have your own specific map with the cool Virtual Earth draggable functionality, double click to zoom in, pan, etc. As an example, I can take a PDF map of Disneyland and overlay it onto a Virtual Earth map. So, while I'm flying around Virtual Earth I can also explore the Disneyland park map." For instance, this same technology could be used to overlay information specific to your organization on the...

To clarify on my previous post , we are adding some additional data in Eastern Europe (vintage Q305) to the MapPoint.EU dataset. In addition to improved overall coverage of our existing European map, Finland and Greece are now much more complete sets of street level data. We are adding 9 new countries: Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovenia. Coverage in these new countries is for routing only, not yet include find address . Most of the newly added countries have 2 or 3 major metros with street level coverage and long major connector highways between them. While the data is not as complete as other areas of Europe yet, these new countries will improve...

FOX Interactive Media's new MyFox service recently lit up some new functionality powered by Virtual Earth. Their new service, currently in Beta (aren't we all these days), includes local traffic flow and incident reports layered on an easy to use and navigate Virtual Earth Map Control. They are rolling out a bunch of cities as I write this--including New York, Birmingham, LA, DC, Dallas, Boston, and more. When your area is online, it should be a great tool for that morning commute. Here is an example from New York .
