So, I haven't done a Virtual Earth code sample for a while and have noticed that I've been hit with the question of "I have pushpins that I don't want rollover popups for. How do I disable them?" Well, here's how. 1. We'll start with a very simple Virtual Earth application which loads a map and adds a pushpin in the center. You can copy and paste the code below into notepage and run it in a browser (IE 6+ or FF 1.5+). <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" " http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd "> <html> <head> <title></title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <script src=" http...
Several years ago we had a product called MapPoint Location Server. The concept was that we could tie into phone networks to find and/or track the location of people via their cell phones. The product itself was nothing more than a server client application that proxied calls between different cell phone networks and MapPoint Web Service . Locations could be rendered on maps on a desktop application (sort of like a dispatch) or on a mobile device (for the person trying to find themselves or others - which reminds me I could use something to help find myself, but, I digress). Because of the E911 initiative, carriers were required to be able to located cell phone users within a certain radius ...

Recently, one of our enterprise customers decided to re-evaluate their mapping options for their software needs. Now, of course, I'm going to be a little biased but I think the article lends itself to many who have to go through the trouble of deciding which mapping platform is right for you. A la Mode out of Arkansas posted a great blog on the pros and cons of each of the major mapping platform players - Microsoft Virtual Earth, Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, and MapQuest. Take a read for yourself to see what they found in their research: http://www.alamode.com/labs/projects/VirtualEarth/default.aspx . CP
