SES NYC Party

March 05, 2005, 07:35 PM by Bing | 18 Comments

Our MSN Search Party at SES turned out to be a big success, with the entrance continually packed with over 400 people attending the event.  The event took up four rooms of a great restaurant in New York called The Park.  The party was conversation filled and entertaining, with people mingling from the first floor to the second eating, talking and drinking. Thanks for coming!

Wow, that's great, wish I could have been there!

A 400 person party for a conference that 1500 folks paid good money for is a bogus idea.

As an exhibitor for the event, I was a bit disappointed when we were turned away at the door for not having the invite (we were exhibiting and HAD our passes).

Perhaps you can take a note from Yahoo's excellent staff and throw a more inclusive party in the future with all that extra money laying around.

Your party was incredible bad. Not letting speakers in or letting highly respected people of the industry wait 45 minutes is definetly _not_ the way to go.

Yahoo did a fabulous party - again!

The best part is that the place wasn't even NEAR being full as you were turning people away from the door. Once we finally did get in, I have to see, seeing a half empty bar made the "turndowns" at the door seem all the more insulting.

And, I gotta agree. At least one of the engines there welcomed all the conferences attendees with open arms. The rest of you could take a lesson from Yahoo.

MSN threw an excellent party. This party stood out against many of the others becaause you could actualy hear people talk without shouting - rare for many of the industry parties.

Due to the speaker volume being low, the place not being packed, and several comfortable rooms with tables and chairs, it felt more like a friendly gathering than a large party. I definately liked the feel of this one.

There seemed to be a mixup for who was emailed invites, picked them up in the booth, vs just showed up. MSN is pretty new to throwing SES parties, so in this regard, we all expect them to do a better job at the next conference.

At the last MSN Party during SES Chicago there seemed to be no problem getting in. It was just too bad that Everyone knew that MSN was throwing a party, but no one knew it was by invite only.

Lots of pissed off people at the door turned away.

Thanks for the Awesome party Yahoo!

MSN, Thanks for waisting my time and my money on the cab ride to your party just to get turned away.

I thought the party at Chicago was decent but it didn't seem that enough people had the invite. I was not able to make the NY SES but perhaps given the comments here MSN needs to re-think it's invite policy?

Unfortunately I have to agree with most of the comments. Good party, but bad selection of people. Was affected myself. :(

While you are out "marketing" with the party people, Google desktop search is out of beta and whooping you big-time.

Also, it includes ability for full Google access from any app NOW.

Note how Google doesn't need marketing. You need to spend bazillions of dollars and illegally leverage your desktop monopoly just to get a slice of the action.

msnsearch sucks.

I was given a ticket to MSN party without asking at their booth - thought it was great, long way to travel though. Yahoo was still by far the best though.

It's a shame that so many had a bad experience with the MSN New York party. They are good people but it seems like there was a lack of planning/communication on this one. I have been associated with Microsoft as a consultant for over a decade and I'm sure they will do a better job next time. Hopefully, everyone who feels burned here will give them another chance.

I was fortunate enough to get and we had a very nice time. Thanks again Microsoft.

Thought it was pretty unprofessional to invite us, give us invites and then turn us away at the door. Danny Sullivan actually had to be summoned to vouch for all of us at the door (around 8 people, many speakers). The worst part was the reception at the door, they were pretty rude about it, even when told we were invited by specific account reps.

There is a way to conduct crowd control and be gracious about it and accomodating but the attitude presented was actually quite rude. Once inside, it definately was not packed which lent just a touch more distaste for those of us who were treated badly at the door.
