MSN Search Toolbar rolls out more international versions

July 15, 2005, 07:14 PM by Bing | 19 Comments

We received a couple of comments in response to the recent blog posting which announced the availability of international versions of MSN Search Toolbar with Windows Desktop Search. Specifically, we were asked “where’s the India version”, and “where’s the China version”. I’d love to say that we took those comments to heart and rushed to prepare new international versions for you, but the truth of the matter is that we’ve been hard at work on expanding the set of international versions for some time.

Our team put a lot of late nights and weekends into this release, and we had people in USA, Ireland, Japan, Korea, China and India working on it. Due to the wide variety of timezones, it meant some group of people was working on this release around the clock, no matter what time it was here in Redmond. Regardless of our geographic location, we are all very happy to have completed this international roll-out, and we’re looking forward to seeing your feedback!

We have just released several more versions to the web. This new release comprises an additional 25 locales, for a total availability of MSN Search Toolbar with Windows Desktop Search in 37 distinct locales and in 15 languages.

We are super-excited to make these available to you. Here's a list of all the sites where you can download the toolbar:

Australia, Austria, Belgium (Dutch & French versions), Brazil, Canada (English & French versions), China (Simplified Chinese), Denmark, Finland, France, GermanyHong Kong SAR (Traditional Chinese), India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latin America, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philipines, Singapore, South AfricaSpainSweden, Switzerland (French & German versions), Taiwan (Traditional Chinese), UK, USA (English & Spanish versions), and Global/Worldwide (English).

I understand Brazilian version comes first, as it has a larger population, but please do not forget Portugal this time.
Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese have many differences, especially in what concerns to new technologies.

Glad to have things tuned up for UK customer.

A pity to see that Form Fill is not available in this version yet, I already rely on it...

Would be nice to see it soon.

Would be also nice if the update checked would notice even the minuscule version changes and then let the punter decide whether she wants it or not, -- rather than notify only about major version changes...

An idea to give MSN Toolbar advantage over the competition would be to include a button that links to Mappoint.msn.(com, co.uk, ...) so you can type the address in the search and see it in Mappoint instantly!

IT Still Doesn't Work for me! i contacted MSN support about a month ago and they said "We are working on this issue and will get back to you as soon as possible. no new yet! i dont think anyone's working on it either.

why it doesn't work! simple, if i go to Setting it says " Windows desktop Search could not be started, Reinstall the software and try again ."

Just installed the India version and it kicks ass. What is even more important for me is that the MSN team actually listens to feedback.

Great show guys!
