Three new features in Live Search Images

July 27, 2007, 08:40 AM by Bing | 23 Comments

We know you love searching for people with our image search engine—we’ve worked hard to make it easy and fun. Now we’ve made it even better. Today we shipped three new features that help you find faces, portraits and black and white images. Try these links to see them in action:

  1. without the new features - jimi hendrix
  2. with new face filtering on - jimi hendrix filter:face
  3. with new portrait filtering on - jimi hendrix filter:portrait
  4. with new black and white filtering on - jimi hendrix filter:bw

Live Search Images with new portrait filtering on

Make sure you also test our Related People feature on the right side of the screen.

For now, the way you access these new features is by typing. You’ll need to add filter:face, filter:portrait, or filter:bw to your query. While we’re thinking about how to make these features intuitively accessible through a drop-down menu or some other means, we’d love your feedback on them. Enjoy!

Works very well! :) But, as you already said, a dropdown menu or something like this would be much more user-friendly.

I'm wondering how this might work, did you implement a face recognition system, or did you sort every picture of famous people by hand (which I believe)? :P

Very cool. I'd like to see the dropdown menu option. The type in option is fine for advanced users even though there is no affordance to that functionality.

For most users I'd like to see a filter dropdown option on the results page that allows users to further filter their searchs. This is likely the most user friendly option for such functionality.

Thanks for the feedback -- as I mentioned in the post, we are working on making these features more easily accessible. Expect some changes to our user interface in the future.

Re how to recognize people: it's an automated system that uses face recognition technology.

Cheers, hugh.

Hi, I have a question thats not related to this post. Its related to club.live.com.

If you see the leaderboard for Chicktionary, the highest score is 7020. How can anyone get that score if you can score only 1000 by completeing all the stages available now in Chicktionary?

Its really bad that i can't get hold of anyone from club.live.com team, there is no way of contacting them. Would you please pass this message to them? They must be under live search team so i am posting here.

Thanks.
