The top U.S. water parks

August 05, 2009, 01:30 PM by SonjaG_Travel | 2 Comments

Looking to beat the heat this summer? In a new Bing Travel article from Budget Travel, we’ve listed 15 water parks around the country perfect for splashing down. Some of the rides at these parks are not for the faint of heart: With names like The Hurricane and Liquid Tornado, be prepared for some frightening fun.

From California to Colorado and Texas to Florida, swirling funnels of water carry young and old through tunnels and tubes into deep pools below. Parkgoers at Water World in Denver can ride inner tubes into a darkened tunnel where animatronic dinosaurs lurk. At Splashtown Waterpark in San Antonio, visitors can ride the Wedgie, appropriately named for the effect it has on your swim trunks as you swish down the tube-slide of a five-story tower.

For small kids and those just looking to cool down, parks also feature wave pools, giant raining umbrellas, soaker hoses and bubbling geysers. For adults, there are parks with concert venues, picturesque gardens and luxurious spas.

Does our list have your favorite water park? Which ones would you add? And what do you think are more fun, roller coasters or water slides? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
