The top destinations for fall 2009

September 18, 2009, 10:00 AM by Kristin | 73 Comments

Some people believe that summer’s the best time to take a trip, but I’ve always been a fan of the fall vacation. The lack of crowds at your favorite tourist attractions is a big reason, but so are the mild weather and colorful leaves that can be found in many popular destinations. And if you needed another excuse to travel during the fall, airfares and hotel rates are typically lower than they are during the peak summer months.

After examining airfares, hotel rates, events, attractions and seasonal weather, Bing Travel has named its 14 best destinations for a fall vacation. Our top travel spot this season is New York City, where you’ll find exciting Broadway openings, delightful foliage, and airfares and hotel rates that are more than 20 percent lower than a year ago. Rounding out our lineup are places from coast to coast as well outside the U.S., and destinations that feature warm weather as well as more moderate climates — and all of which offer interesting attractions as well as great deals.

What are your favorite fall destinations? Do you agree with our picks, or are we missing your most beloved spot? Share your thoughts with other travelers in the comments section.

Keeping in mind the current financial situation, less and less people are now travelling. Hence, local travel is generally preferred by those who are eventually deciding to go out despite the unfavorable circumstances.

Hawaii is my favorite vacation spot during the fall months. And is probably the best and cheapest time to visit the islands - http://www.sharinghawaii.com

I'm a bit bias, however, Washington DC is cooler, cheaper and less crowded in the fall.  It makes for a great vacation.

I may be biased, but Orlando is great in the fall.

The weather actually cools down and the theme parks are less crowded.

No place is better than New England in the fall !  The riot of colors on the trees the air is crisp and clean and as a side treat go to an apple orchard and get a peck of fresh picked apples.

Living in Northeast PA, fall has always been the the most spectacular time of the year for me with all the scenery changing. Unless you witness it for yourself no words can explain how majestic the hillsides, valleys or mountaintops look.

Get in the car and hit the road this weekend! With the KMA Global Travels Road Trips search www.kmaglobaltravels.com, you can find great destinations and fantastic deals just a short drive from wherever you are.

Visit PA and see the blaze of glory along its highways, country roads and coastline! www.visitpa.com/.../index.aspx

Hope you enjoy!

I have to agree w/Merky - Greenbrier and Pocohantas Counties are amazing the first and second week of October.  Snowshoe, WV - where the elevation if 4848 the trees are out of this world.  On top of the mountain where the resorts are - lots of great food, beathtaking golf courses and just nice curvy WV roads - be careful of motorcycles this time of year - Come visit us - we are known for our great hospitality.

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is an amazing place in the fall if you're into the outdoors.

New Orleans is very nice in Autum! They are so many things to do all over the city. Also, the weather is so pretty. only light jackets needed!
