I'm using the Live Search API which regularly returns URLs where the cached web pages can be found. For example:
http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q=4975530683794678&setlang=en-US&w=47509347,6cd76c28
However, when I try to access a cached URL, the web server always returns an http 404 not found. I've tried this with a number of URLs. Several months ago this was not a problem, but it's been happening now for at least a week.
Any idea what's wrong with the cache?
Hi,
Thanks for reporting the problem. This issue has been fixed now. The cached URL returned in the web sourcetype reponse should point to a valid URL. Please run the API call again to see the valid cached URL.
Thx
Roopali
I have also experienced a lot of cached URLs of my site returning 404 before, but didn't know why it was happening.

If this is a general problem in your website, you will see these URLs also listed in the crawl errors section of your Webmaster Tools account.

Once it has been reindexed it will correct itself I think.

Yes, I also think this is not a major issue. Things will get normal when Bing will recached your sites. However, you have not mentioned anything about the indexing issue. Please tell us what Bing is showing when you are searching with the term: site: site URL.

As you can see from Roopali's reply, the issue has been resolved. This didn't have anything to do with one person's sites but the API handling of all sites.
Sometimes I think caching is more trouble than it's worth. Did a major revamp to a site a while ago and it took months for old pages to be deindexed.

The issue has nothing to do with implementing a 301 redirect or clearing one's browser cache.
