Another huge addition to the digitization of our planet just hit the web last night – 21TB - all ortho imagery launched into Microsoft Virtual Earth, powering Live Search Maps (and other Live Search properties). Now, this one isn’t huge in terms of terabytes, oh no. This is huge in terms of square kilometers of the world. This should take you some time to get through. And, FWIW, there are a few countries on the list that I’m wondering if you’d ever heard of – Seychelles or Comoros anyone? Their tourism boards need to step it up! Also, don’t let these pictures fool you – you can zoom in far closer than I’ve captured.

The roads are wayyy off (I checked for Kolkata)
Look here - four roads intersect in the middle of the airport!

Sushovande,
We're working to improve this. You can see the level of detail on our current Live Maps India site that we'll get to leverage in the coming months: http://mapindia.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=22.568366~88.363037&style=r&lvl=11&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&where1=kolkata&encType=1.
Fantastic imagery update, but from the places I have tried so far none seem to display in 3D mode - is this right?
Also, any update yet on any more V2 cities in the pipeline? Or has that been put on the backburner to other things you are working on?
well that MapIndia is definitely an improvement, but there is still room for improvement. And it is pretty much crippled without a satellite overlay.
I wish you and your team all the best in your endeavours!
Bravo.
There's some misprint for France list :
Reims (instead of Remis)
Troyes (instead of Troues)
Clermont-Ferrand (Clermot-Ferrand)
Strangely, I assumed that there would be overlapping use of servers to serve up tiles for all versions of Virtual Earth, but 2D AJAX seems to be the only one that has the update so far. How long does it usually take for them to show up in Virtual Earth 3D Beta, or in the Silverlight Map Control?
I realise that the Silverlight version is still unreleased, but it appears to be using the same tiles as the other versions and not the typical 256pixel-square tiles that Seadragon typically uses. If further processing of the data must be done, how long of a delay will that be for each release in the future?
Thanks for any answers you're able to give.
No reprocessing is required, but the tile sets have a generation ID that will need to be updated in the Silverlight control. We'll do that when we update it. 3D should have the latest and greatest imagery without an update.
Thanks, some of those cities were my hard work!
Hope to be better. Better means more features.
