Announcing Search Champs v2

Announcing Search Champs v2

  • Comments (25)

In October 2004, about 30 technology enthusiasts from around the world came to our Redmond campus to take part in an early preview of the new MSN Search service and assist us in the development process. The Champs reviewed our product plans from the bottoms up, including the current and upcoming features as well as future ideas that hadn’t made it into our first version release. Our goal was to get constructive feedback and to obtain a view of our plans through fresh eyes. We were very pleased with the feedback and were able to make changes, based on suggestions from the Champs, that improved both our initial release and future release plans.

We are extremely grateful for the time and energy the participants dedicated to the program.  Thank you, all of you.

Due to the success of the program we are now planning Search Champs V2 that will take place this April. The invites should be out within the next 48 hours.  We worked hard in our selection process for V2 to ensure diversity, a wide range of backgrounds amongst the invitees, and fresh perspectives.  The Search Champs V2 program has similar goals to the inaugural Champs program, and we are working diligently on an easier communications process based on some great feedback from V1.

  • Great to see a Search Engine adopting a consultative approach, rather than the usual 'cone of silence'.

  • I think it is a win/win for both parties the Champs and MSN. Nice hands on approach. Not as secretive as the Bush Admin or Goog.
  • :) This is a smart move for MSN Search, congrats of the success of the first run and more to you with the second run :)
  • MSN calls in various individuals that know a thing or two about search to help them build a better search engine. They did it before, and even had self admitted spammers in the group. They are now doing it again,...
  • It's been very enjoyable listening to MSN talk about where their engine is, and where they wish it to go.

When all the advanced features are rolled out, there will be some amazing targeting capabilities.

Can't wait to roll in some smaller advertisers into this program to show everyone what it can do.
  • I'm very pleased to see MSN doing this again. I think it's a fantastic idea and something that can really benefit both users and the search technology itself. I talked to someone at SES NYC who had been to the last one and he said even he was surprised at how willing he was to share information with MSN just because they asked.

Great idea guys, keep up the good work.
  • Come on msn you rock :)

  • Thanks for all your comments. Its funny for me to have all this praise when all i doing is getting some great ideas for free......well, I need to give our testers free food and drink, but that can all be written off as a taxable expense.
  • How does one request involvement in future MSN Search related events?
  • What is the process for selecting participants?
