College Hoops, MSN Search Style

During this period of madness, we have a special treat for all you college basketball fanatics. We rolled out some instant answers for the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

We teamed up with FOX Sports to show real-time scores and schedules during the games. You get a quick snapshot of the tournament just by searching for “college hoops”. You can also track a specific team such as “niagara purple eagles” or using just the college name like “ucla basketball”. Season stats show up when you type in a player from one of the teams in the tourney.

While we can’t predict the final brackets, we can tell you what happened in the past. For example, “who won the 1948 ncaa basketball tournament” or even who scored the most points in a men's college basketball championship game”.

Please try these out and send us your suggestions. We’re planning more sports answers and would really like your feedback.

  • Hi,

Really liked the new feature. When I try searching for "Jayhawks", the first round matchup for the KU Jayhawks do not show up (modifying the query to "KU Jayhawks" gets me the desired results). However, when I search for "Tar Heels", MSN search shows me the first round matchup for the UNC 'Heels. Is this a case of east-coast bias. :-)
  • I believe the term "Jayhawks" was already spoken for in their Direct Answers database...by a musical group. They had to settle for the next best thing is my guess with KU Jayhawks.
  • That's a cool little feature, thanks.

And UW is in the sweet 16! Yeah!
  • OT, but can you please stop hammering my site? Your crawler is hitting me about 10 times more than Googlebot.

It's even worse if I use dynamic session IDs in PHP.

This is ridiculous and if it persists I will add you to robots.txt.

I think it's highly disrespectful to webmasters, but then what can we expect from the company that botched CSS up so badly.
  • "who won the FA cup in 1969" I cant believe you have included UK stats too. Well done MSN! However “who won the uk football league in 1978” does not work or any league results.

  • hahaha
