Betsynote: As I type this in for Jamie, it is hot. Darn hot. Too sunny-must-go-kayak-on-the-lake-hot....This is not the Seattle I know!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Around this time of year, a lot of us here in Redmond like to spend our spare time outside.  Summers are beautiful in Washington State and we frequently check the weather to help plan our next hike or boating trip on the lake.  We know a lot of you are doing the same.

To get you this information quickly, we recently launched an Instant Answer for weather.  We teamed up with MSN Weather to give you the current conditions, high/low temperatures and four day forecast right on our search results page.

You can see this in action by searching for the weather in a specific location, like weather redmond wa or chicago temperature.  If you’re a touring rock star and forget where you are, or just madly efficient with your keystrokes - try searching for just weather.  We estimate your location and show the temperature near you. This doesn’t always work depending on how you connect to the Internet, but it’s usually pretty close.

In addition to sending feedback on this, we would really like to hear which instant answers you want us to build next.  Is there a specific kind of content you want to be able to find faster?  Something we could add to our page to make your life just a little bit easier?  Please let us know.

  • This is a brilliant add-on

But besides Weather - also allow synonyms such as temperature to fetch the results

...and also expand this to international weather if possible
  • I would really like to see some calculator functions like the ones that Google has.

I find myself using those quite a bit. For instance the currency conversion ones are very helpful. I typed the following query into both Google and MSN search:

    20.20 euros to dollars

and Google gave me the conversion that I wanted while MSN just returns some search results.
  • I think MSN is making a comback. I own an online store called http://www.herweddingfavors.com and MSN content is very recent and up to date with organic search results.  With these improvements and new technology MSN is moving in the right direction!
  • Rockin'
  • The cool thing for MSDN is that because of the flexibility of MSN, we have been able to listen to the customers and build even more unique experiences in an effort to assist our customers.  (To understand the approach take a minute and watch this MSDN TV article).  As we examined future possible outcomes and implementations, we came up with the following UI that we would like to introduce for your consideration, our first iteration of these features
  • OH MY GOD!  You Really DO Read and React to these Comments  :O

  • Yes, we really do read these :).

We're not kidding when we say that your feedback is important.  We listen very closely and try to react to your comments as quickly as we can.
  • Hello,

Can you create a feature on the search page to be able to preview/Quick Peek at the pages before opening to a new window????

just like at favorites.live.com where you click to preview the links.

That would be awsome, because I don't want to waste time going from site to site when I can preview the page from Live.Com

I hope you tak this under consideration.

    Thank You.
  • This a great feature...keep adding more!

  • "Weather Paris" does not bring back an instant answer (http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=weather+Paris&FORM=QBRE) whereas "temperature paris" does!

Also make it work with the word meteo which is used in many countries.

You should also have the same capability brining the map, ex:
    http://www.google.fr/search?hl=fr&q=london&meta=

Many people just enter the name of a city to get weather, news, events, map, subway... Some of that should come through instant answers.

Good luck MSN! You're back on track!
