In the “things that make you say ‘aww!’ ” department, does it get any better than baby animals? It’s doubtful, we say — and a new Bing Travel slide show from Budget Travel may send you into cuteness overload. Behold: zoo babies ready for their close-up!
Zoos and animal parks, particularly those with special breeding programs, are some of the best places to get your cute-and-cuddly fix. This slide show presents some of the sweetest little creatures to debut at U.S. zoos recently, including a button-eyed panda cub in Atlanta, a tiger-kitten trio in San Diego and a lovable baby tree kangaroo in the Bronx.
It goes without saying, though, that zoos are about much more than the adorable-animal factor. Zoos are paragons of conservation, often helping endangered species maintain or regain a foothold. They’re educational — a great place to take kids, who’ll have so much fun that they won’t realize how much they’re learning. And they represent an affordable entertainment option: Earlier this week, The Associated Press reported that attendance is rising this year at zoos around the country.
What are your favorite zoos to visit, what’s drawing you to visit them now and what do you most like to see there? I’ve always been a fan of the Woodland Park Zoo’s Humboldt penguins, which just got a spectacular new home at the Seattle zoo. Leave a comment below to share your favorites — and be sure to let us know about any new zoo babies!
I like zoos because they help to conserve endangered animal species. Without zoos many of these animals would have been extincted a long time ago.
Don’t play games with me!
