When you think of national parks, what comes to mind? We’re guessing that at the forefront are some of the classic parks, such as Yosemite in California, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and Shenandoah in Virginia. But the National Park Service is much bigger than that, encompassing nearly 400 parks, historical parks and monuments, and they’re all worthy of a visit.

A new Bing Travel slide show presents some of the country’s best national parks and monuments that are a bit off the beaten trail — places that offer stunning scenery and a rich experience, without the crowds you’re likely to find at the more popular venues. The 16 parks and monuments in the slide show span the country, from Tennessee and Texas to Nebraska and Nevada, and up and down the West Coast.

But these are just a few of the parks that are waiting for you to discover and find adventure in them. (As a bonus, two more weekends this summer will feature free admission at all national parks.) What are your favorite parks, and what do you enjoy about them? Are you planning a trip there this summer? Share your thoughts with other travelers in the comments section below.

  • I enjoy many parks but the Grand Canyon is my favorite, because of its scenery. Sometimes I like to feel the essence of the early Pueblo people who inhabited there first.

  • The Grand Canyon is my favourite but i like to stick at attractions near to my home which is blackpool.

  • It's my dream to enjoy Grand Canyon.

    If only . . .

  • Id love to go to some of them, but they aint in England! You should do one about England!

You will see the real ranking of nature.

  • @ luke - there are loads of attractions but the national parks are much more better as its wildlife and thats very relaxing especially on a summers day.

  • Just made an eight day sweep of 5 National, two tribal and several state parks. Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands, Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods. They are all incredible and if you go in late April like I did you won't see any crowds. In fact except for Zion and Arches I was mostly alone with nature.

  • Sound like a great place to go to, I would like to be going there soon.

  • Trekking is the gift of Nepal to the world in adventure tourism. To be one with Nature, to regenerate one's own confidence, to relive oneself, to appreciate Nepal's exquisiteness, to interact with its generous and responsive peoples are some of the places of interest of trekking in Nepal. Trekking is one long-lasting activities that draws reiterate visitors to the country. Consequently, Nepal is the definitive objective for the trekking supporter.

It offers a multitude of possibilities - from the "short and easy" walking excursion to the "challenging and strenuous" challenge of the snow-white peaks and their foothills and valley. But however easy, or reasonable, or demanding, there is something for every palate that goes with trekking in Nepal's hills, mountains and hinterlands. The most rewarding way to experience Nepal's indomitable amalgamation of natural attractiveness and cultural riches is to walk through the length, breadth and the altitudes of Nepal. Trekking in Nepal is as much a distinctive cultural expertise as well as an definitive Himalayan adventure.

  • I would love to travel America and visit all the national parks driving a camper van (SUV in the states). Yellow Stone Park would be the one I would visit if I only had one choice. The fact I stay in Scotland limits me to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. You guys over the pond will love this place.
