Otherworldly landscapes

Otherworldly landscapes

Forget shelling out thousands of dollars to travel into space (and don’t worry about the motion-sickness training): Instead, you can make an intergalactic journey without ever leaving Earth. There are many locales where you can catch a glimpse of an extraordinary landscape that will make you feel as though you’re on another planet.

While America celebrates the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s trip to the moon, Bing Travel has a new slide show of otherworldly landscapes you can visit closer to home. In the U.S., the lunar-like terrain of Craters of the Moon and Haleakala national parks look almost alien. And surreal landscapes overseas like the Dead Sea and Erg Chebbi sand dunes will make you feel like you’re light years away from our solar system.

What otherworldly landscapes have you discovered in your travels? Have you visited any of the ones featured in this slide show? Share your experiences in the comments section.

  • If you want to try going to space, learn to scuba dive and do a bottomless night dive. That is as close to being in space as you will get

  • I am surprised the Giant's Causeway on the northern coast of Ireland isn't included here. It is quite impressive and unusual.

  • I don't have any longing of going to the space.

  • Check out the island of Socotra off the coast of Yemen, truly unworldly.

  • Joshua Tree National Park looks like an alien landscape.

  • The landscapes shown are gorgeous. There are lots of outstanding landscapes in the world such as these ones. My wife and I invite you to join our open-ended nomadic journey around the world and look at the exceptional world landscapes and other wonders through our camera lens and our website:  http://angelmireya.webs.com

  • Goblin Valley State Park in Utah or Plitvice Lakes Croatia.

  • Do a Google image search on Bisti Badlands.  They're in New Mexico and if you're into hiking a mile or so you'll find stuff you've never seen and the best part is you're in it.

  • Great photos! I would post mine of Great Sand Dunes National Monument in CO, but that would be a process to do that posting. So, here's their website:

NOTE: I would like to see real, live human exploration of the solar system. Here's a crude but functional site I set up:
