Most travelers maintain a wish list of sites they hope one day to visit. But many people focus their wanderlust on places outside of the U.S., ignoring what’s in their own backyard.
In a new article from Budget Travel, Bing Travel highlights the 8 places that every American should visit. Many of these sites have significant historical meaning. For example, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Yellowstone National Park and Graceland are on the list because of the unique imprint each place (or its inhabitants) have had on the U.S.
Pearl Harbor is another must-see. This haunting memorial honors the thousands lost in the short, fierce battle that launched the U.S. into World War II. Every American should visit Hawaii at least once in his or her lifetime, and a pilgrimage to Pearl Harbor is a worthwhile stop.

Disagree about Graceland. Pop culture and it's 'imprint' are insignificant compared to America's treasures to include Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Yosemite, Bryce/Zion, Olympics, Glacier, Joshua Tree, and Everglades. So check out the REAL back-yard! Thanks

I agree with fred. being from tacoma, mt. reineer should be visited more often by americans. also, they great tetons mountains, and salt lake city.
A nice collection of meaningful sites! Pearl Harbor seems to be my favorite, because of its deep historical significance that changed the cause of America.

GRACELAND a must alot of history, even if you are not a Elvis fan. Brings you back in time, Mansion, the movie theather, his cars, outfits, the airplanes. A MUST SEE
I agree. Graceland is a must see to remind our youth that drug addiction (even prescription) results in an unpleasant and untimely death. I think the toilet that Elvis died on should be highlighted in that tour. Unfortunately, Graceland does not fit my definition of American History. Though it's not listed, neither does Neverland Ranch for future reference.
i am a huge music fan but there is no way Graceland makes the top 10 list. . . . . . top 100 sure but top ten no way

last time I visited a national Park, I found out that it is the hoards of Tourist that are detroying the natural environment. So many human waste to treat and so much air polution, and so much trampling.
I decided I do not want to visit any natrual wonders if I do not have the extreme urge, so i do not contribute to the disintegration of the natural wonder.
I would like to add Ruby Falls in TN. It is a beautiful falls that is over 400 ft below ground. The area was used in the Civil war to hid weapons and food. You travel in a elevator down and walk thru a beautiful cave with awesome markings and then you come upon one of the most beautiful falls ever.
