Getting around a new city can be as simple as hailing a taxi or getting aboard a subway, but in many places around the world, transportation options are a lot more unusual. Whether it’s climbing up a steep mountainside, crossing waterways or weaving in and out of congested traffic, there are many creative ways of getting around.
In a new photo gallery on Bing Travel, we share some of the world’s most magnificent modes of transportation. Crossing the Grand Canal in Venice can be done in a traghetto, a gondola-shaped boat in which passengers stand for the short journey. If you want to get to the top of the hills surrounding Valparaiso, Chile, just climb onboard one of the city’s funiculars. Too tired for a walking tour in the nation’s capital? Try a Segway tour to zip around D.C.
What unique modes of transportation have you encountered in your travels? My favorite is the colorful jeepneys that make their way around cities in the Philippines. Share your experiences with other travelers in the comments section.
Weaving in and out of traffic on a tuk tuk in Thailand. Fast, an experience, & dangerous all in one
The best experience I had was in Jamaica in the 70s riding the double decker buses.....I don't know if they still even have those in operation anymore, I haven't visited there in a long time but it was an experience and then you cold ride anywhere for about a quarter.

Open air double decker bus in Galway City, Ireland in Galway Bay. Right outside our hotel, so put bags in room, picked up the bus & had beautiful tour of the city & bay. Galway is all walking about, so right away we had our bearings & knew directions! It was excellent fun & cheap.Watch out for low hanging branches of trees, tho!
Riding a matatu ("music bus") in Nairobi, Kenya is an interesting experience. Often emblazoned in pop culture or quite frequently American political sentiment such as George W vs. Osama bin Laden, the insides boast TVs and speakers blasting music and video. Very cheap transportation, very very crowded, and EXTREMELY fast and crazy drivers!
Riding to the cave where the Buddha spent some years on the back of a scooter.
Riding a mule in Panama (they really are as stubborn as it's said).
Riding a tuk-tuk (aka self-propelled reconnaissance and assault vehicle) in Delhi when a said tuk-tuk hit a pedestrian.
Riding the jungle railroad in Yucutan, Mexico--a knocked together cart running on rails, pulled by a horse through the jungle to some cenotes (underground lakes).
Riding a weird truckster thing in India which had a large lawnmower type engine running just the single front wheel.
Catching a ride on a Boda-Boda in Kampala, Uganda. Crazy, terrifying, and the ultimate thrill for me. They are motorcycle taxi's that are super-cheap transportation, but the downside is that they are also super-dangerous. Drivers will do whatever it takes to get you to your destination as quick as possible. Even if that means zipping through on-coming traffic, squeezing in between vehicles, or driving on crowded sidewalks.
Riding in the back of a pick up truck. Called a PASAJERA , in Guerrero Mexico
Riding on a Camel while visiting a pyramid in Egypt
Growing up, I was pretty good at making my parents mad. Therefore I did a lot of traveling around on the end of there foot. It may not be as exotic is your pictures, but nevertheless it was very inexpensive travel.
Riding in my cousin's 1976 buick lesabre with no floors in it and the exhaust blowing in your eyes. " It felt like someone threw hambuger seasoning in your eyes...lol"!
Riding on a Pulmonia in Mazatlan Mexico.

I used to live in the Phillipinnes because of my job and I rode Jeepnys very often.
How about a trycycle in the Philippines ride is rough overloaded and the good smell of exhaust from others won't forget that !!!
