Juggle your boarding pass and driver’s license, remove your shoes, belt and jacket, place your cell phone, electronic reading device and 3-ounce bottle of shampoo in the plastic bin and toss your purse onto the conveyor belt. Go through security, then gather up the bits before your pants fall down and someone runs off with your wallet.
Who needs all this annoyance? In a new slide show on Bing Travel, we explore 10 airports and flight experiences that reduce the hassle associated with going through security.
Did you know, for example, that you can fly between Seattle and the San Juan Islands without taking off your shoes and putting them through an X-ray machine? Do it by flying out of Boeing Field. You can also fly from New Bedford, Mass., to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard with normal-size containers of liquid soap, shampoo and toothpaste. In New Zealand, passengers flying domestically on planes with fewer than 90 seats typically don’t get screened at the airport. That way, when you fly in or out of the Rotorua International Airport , you’ll have more time to relax and enjoy your surroundings, which include 10 brightly colored Maori-style carvings in the terminal.
Do you have a favorite airport or flight experience that is relatively hassle-free? Share your thoughts with other travelers in the comments section.
It's been awhile since I've been on a plan. But my friends say it's a nightmare. Some of the things they make you go through is just silly. I understand there might be terror issues but some of this is a little over board.
Flights from regional airports in Australia generally don't have any screening or restrictions. Makes it very easy and refreshing.
LAX was a nightmare when I was last there. Went through screening 3 times (shoes, etc) when coming international and connecting to domestic.

In the U.S., Tampa is a great hassle-free airport of medium size. Small airports that I like = Harrisburg, PA, and Chattanooga, TN. Overseas, Munich is wonderful
we need to invent a machine that scans everything without putting people throught the hassle. when I watch old movies, flying used to be something people would look forward to, not a hassle!
It was time to stop this frenzy.
In Europe our airports are relatively hassle-free. But EU is introducing full body scanners at airport control points for few months.
very much...

binghamton ny,is hassle free airport.
Some people are scare of flying as they think it can not be safe sometimes! But in my opinion, plain is the safest mean of transportation. However the security at the airports should be better to make people feel safe!

IN MY EXPERIENS THE WORST AIRPORTS ARE LONDON AND PARIS. THEY HASTLE THE PEOPLE FOR NOTHING. SAFETY IS IMPORTANT BUT IF YOU HAVE A CONNECTING FLIGHT THEY PUT THROUGH THE SCREENIG AGAIN AND THEM PEOPLE ARE SO RUDE AT THE SCANNING AREA. THEY TREAT YOU LIKE UNHUMANLY.
PDX is a hassle free airport, i can get through security within 10-15 minutes and they have free Wifi and a lot of stores you can shop at.
Ok....
I know this is going to sound crazy, but I loooveed DCA (Washington D.C.)'s airport. For the last six years I have had to fly all over the world because of work, and I could tell you some major horror stories...
But D.C.'s airport was one bright spot. They didn't charge for the extra weight on my bags. Line's moved insanely fast (wait was I even in a line?) The TCA's were friendly, and honestly happy, which is definitely hard to come by these days.
People were generally nice---who would have thought thats all it takes to make you like an airport?
Oh, and for the record, out of all the airports I have been in the world, wouldn't mind if I never, ever, ever stepped foot again in NY's JFK airport.
*Flashbacks are flooding in* - God I hate that place.
Santa Barbara, Ca. Great airport!
