I must confess a freakish fascination with lakes. One night at the tender age of 10, I dreamed I would swim out to the middle of Lake Candlewood in Connecticut. The next day, I did. In 2009, I decided to swim across Lake Washington near Seattle as part of the Swim for Life charity event. It was 2.5 miles, and it took me 2.5 hours. I’m now in training to do it again in August.
What is it about lakes that draw me and countless others to their shores? Whether it’s Crater Lake in Oregon, Taal Lake in the Philippines or Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, these sparkling bodies of water seem to have a serenity that cannot be measured.

I was surprised that Lake Tahoe which is on the border of California and Nevada did not make the list. Perhaps the author has never been there.
Without a doubt, Lake Superior has to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. The vastness and many faces of this lake is nothing short of awesome.
My vote goes to Crater Lake in Oregon. It is absolutely breathtaking. A must see.
By and far I think the most beautiful lake Is Lake Louise , especially the view from our suite at the Chateau lake Louise hotel. The view is beyond discription or even a postcard!! The mirror surface of the water with the reflection of the snow capped mountains and the Victoria Glacier in the backround is beyond words!!
Agree with Lake Superior and will add Lake Michigan's northern shores....best kept secret in the US. Absolutely breathtaking.

Crater Lake was so beautiful, Lake Saquaro in Mesa AZ is another of my favorites. The wonderous drive into the lake, w/mountains, blue skies/ tall trees followowing you into the lake, then it opens to the most blue lake that makes you smile.
Please do not forget Lake Tahoe, not only beautiful but also mysterious.Perfect location,too.
Flathead Lake in North West Montana is the most beautiful lake I know. It's the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi and no matter where you are on the drive around it the views are spectacular, and boating on it is incredible. There are a few restaurants located on the lake where you can park your boat for a fantastic, relaxing dining experience.
Been there and done that! Went in early June. The weather was perfect but all the townspeople were complaining about how hot it was at 72 degrees. Being from Houston, we thought it was heaven. The lake road was still snowed in so our access was very limited. It is the most beautiful of God's handiwork that we have ever seen in our 60 years of life. You can't take a bad picture no matter "who" is in it!!!
Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada is the most magnificient lake I have ever seen, boated in, swam in (freezing 56 degrees) and just overall viewed. It takes my breath away. Emerald Bay is an especially beautiful section of the lake in south Lake Tahoe. The Sierra Nevada are my idea of heaven.
