Why is it that some sand is so brilliantly white? It depends on where you are. In the Caribbean and other tropical destinations, white sand usually comes from waves crushing corals and seashells into fine powder. In other parts of the world, white sand consists of quartz or silica, usually mixed with other minerals, ground down over time into small particles by weather, wind and other forces of nature. (Interesting side note: The White Sands National Monument in Alamogordo, N.M., is made up of pure gypsum.)Whatever its source, white sand draws us like bees to honey – especially this time of year when our fleece-wrapped thoughts turn to warm, azure water lapping at sugar-fine shores. Go ahead, dream a bit. What beach has your name on it? We pulled together photos of some of our favorites, from Aruba to Zanzibar, in a new slide show, I’m Dreaming of a White Sand Christmas.Have you been to any of these? Did we miss your favorite? Tell us by leaving a comment below.Happy travels!
The most dreamy holiday vacation place is Bermuda.... the sand is soft and pink.... the beaches along the South Shore, joined together by walking trails... find a beach of your own to swim in the surf, snorkel along the inner reefs.. then head up to your hotel for a lovely British afternoon tea with dainty sandwiches, cream and scones....oh so relaxing ... away from the mad rush of home.... less then 2 hours away from any East Coast state..... it's majic believe me, the beaches STUNNING.....
I live in Puerto Rico we have lots of beaches to choose, in Guanica Playa Santa, la jungla, en Lajas Playita Rosada, Caracoles, in Cabo Rojo playa sucia, combate, boqueron, I live in the south western coast and it is just quiet, good people, food and beautiful beaches just come enjoy and relax
. If you visit Puerto Rico forget San Juan, explore the southwestern PORTA DEL SOL, if you are from the states dont need passport and yo find the same stores that you have in the states.
Boracay Philippines has one of the finest white sand beaches in the world. Sylvester Stallone and Claude Van Damne have been there a couple of times for the peace, quiet and beauty of the island. If you opt for having a massage, ask for an authentic "hilot" for best result.
Definitely Bermuda.......2 hours away.............great for long weekends.........................and the pink sand!
The best sand is at Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida!
I live in Nassau, Bahamas, but my favorite beach in not in the capital, but rather on Long Island. The beach is called Deals Beach, and there is now a small resort with a restuarant and bar on the beach which is perfect for a good meal while enjoying the beach. The beach is over a mile long with white, fine sands, crystal clear water, and best of all it is shallow near to the shore which makes it perfect for kids to play in. It is on the western side of the island which makes for a great sunset!
The prettiest white sand beach I've been to was Tulum on the Mayan Riviera in Mexico :)
I've been to a lot of beaches. If anyone is interested, I wrote about what I think of Mayan Riviera beaches here: www.infobarrel.com/Mayan_Riviera_-_So_hows_the_beach

Polihale Beach Park on the island of KAUAI is the least visited beach in Hawaii. It's a long ruff road makes it a bit tuff to get to but it's well worth it. It's Hawaii's longest sand beach that ends at the cliffs of North shore.Nobodys ever there so you have the whole beach to your self.....
Pensacola Beach, FL is the best white sand beach! There is tons of fun stuff to do in Pensacola!
Why isn't Radhanagar Beach, haveloc island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, india is not included in the gallery of white sand beaches??? it is one of its best
Harbour Island in the Bahamas has the most beautiful pale pink sand-----
