I have a MOLSB website to which I want to add Bing Webmasters Tools. I'm experiencing difficulty with the Authentication process.
I already use Google Webmasters Tools. So I tried following the same procedure I used successfully for Google:
I chose the Meta Tag authentication method. I converted the site verification code provided by Bing via the OLSitemap Meta Tag Verification Generator. I.e.,
<meta name="msvalidate.01" content="0794B017D02E9B59C3856393E23D9324" />
was converted to
%22/%3E%3Cmeta name=%22msvalidate%2E01%22 content=%220794B017D02E9B59C3856393E23D9324
From what I've read on the subject here, ideally this code snippet should be placed immediately after the last letter of the last keyword. However, I read here that when using multiple webmasters tools, eg, Google, Bing and Yahoo, authentication for each will actually work fine if the code may is placed anywhere within the Home Page's keywords. (For a MOLSB website that is found at Page Editor > Page properties > Search engine optimization > Keyword metatags.) So as I'm reading it, each code snippet for the respective Webmasters Tools can be attached to any of the keywords.
Thus I placed the code at the end of a keyword. I attached it immediately after the last letter of the keyword, per instructions I had seen for Google Webmasters Tools site verification.
Now to the problem: When I try to authenticate, I'm finding that the site has already been authenticated using the XML code method. I believe the explanation for this is that a few weeks ago I had submitted the site to Bing, but without using the Webmasters Tools (which I would now like to do).
So the site has already been submitted to Bing Webmasters Central. But when I click on the site, I get an error message stating that authentication has failed via both authentication methods.
Should I try removing the site, then re-adding it via the Meta Tags authentication method?
Okay, problem solved. Maybe this will be instructive for others having the same problem.
It only worked for me by adding the code snippet at the end, following the Google verification code, with one space between the two respective code snippets. Eg,
keyword, keyword, keyword%22/%3E%3Cmeta name=%22google-site-verification%22 content=%22aUernLeyf92NyHpUY66_wVqqfSRRgNny8-RZJcH4vgI %22/%3E%3Cmeta name=%22msvalidate%2E01%22 content=%220794B017D02E9B59C3856393E23D9324
Glad you were able to solve it. This is another similar thread: http://www.bing.com/community/forums/t/653116.aspx

Maybe I spoke too soon...
I added the Yahoo Search verification code after Bing's. And now Bing is back to not authenticating. :-\
The verification code snippets are separated by one space. That worked when I had only the Google and Bing verification codes. But then I added a third, as I mentioned.
Anyway thanks, I'll take a look at the thread you referenced.

Edit:
Heh, okay, well actually, I did work it out thanks to the thread you shared. In the thread you referenced above I read that Bing doesn't like having a space after the code. So I placed the Bing verification code last in the order.
The order I used for the three verification code snippets was Google, Yahoo, and Bing last (with no space after it.
Bing now autheneticates again.
I had the same problem, You can remove your site and add it again, but that may change your verification code. For sites that were registered with the old version of the tools, the existing verification code assigned to it remains. If you remove it, and add it again, you will get the new verification code your account will use going forward. This new verification code will not change, and will be consistent for all sites that you add in the future.
