When I view my Site Summary (and also on the Keywords page), the region of my pages is indicated to be "gb". When I examine the source of my pages, I'm seeing this:
Isn't this enough to indicate a region of "us"? Is there some other piece of information that is being considered?
Thanks in advance!
where are the servers hosted?
Sometimes that language tag works, other times it doesn't. Officially, we do not recognize the tag. However, I've seen it work about 80% of the time. If this was just changed, it might take a while--one or two crawls.

*I no longer work for Bing.
The servers are hosted in the Houston area. It was changed fairly recently - unfortunately since I don't seem to get crawled regularly this seems to be keeping my site out of all search results.
Thanks for your assistance Brett!
This is because your web hosting is located in the US

Brett, I sincerely hope that saying that something works 80% of the time is not the official standing point of Bing.
My site is affected with the same problem. The language is identified sometimes (and yes, from the top 5 pages I can see it is exactly in 80% :-) The region problem persists. Please keep in mind that outside the US the countries are rather small and the region where the servers are does not always cohere with the region. And as I can tell from the serps in Bing compared to "one of your top competitors", the region seems to matter a lot in Bing!
Please either declare official support of some tag webmasters that webmasters can set this through, or allow us to set it via Webmaster center at least.
If the site was hosted in the UK before, that may have been the reason for the confusion. However, it would be good if Bing will officially recognize the global use of language tags, which other search engines recognize.

Definitely... Should recognize the language tag or the region tag... No guesswork...

IMHO it would be more semantic to parse region meta geotags, rather than a language meta tag, or server location, to target results to queries.

I assume Bing must do something with the language tag hence the "80% chance it will work" - it would be much easier if it relied on this tag (as other search engines do) to determine the region of a site, it would save a lot of trouble on the webmasters part trying to get it indexed in the correct region.
I agree, determining the region from the language tag is pure evil in the first place.
Either way, please keep in mind that there are plenty of sites for which geolocation is not applicable at all. Google has sorted that out by giving webmasters the option to set the region to "Global".
If I have a site about growing carnivore plants, why should it be categorized under some region? Just because it's in English? Or because my provider has servers in Hawaii?
Determining the region from the server's IP is wrong as well. Especially nowadays with webhosts globalizing and consolidating datacenters or emerging cloud services such as the AWS.
Well, lukas.nevosad, maybe we have identified a new search engine business opportunity. The domain name geosearch.biz is on sale at GoDaddy for US $9.99. Dell started out of a garage and just bought Perot, maybe we could start from an idea on a forum.
I wonder how this is decided if no langauge tags were assigned to the site?
Our main site had no language tag assinged but it has always been hosted in the UK. It has been assinged to the Region It (Italy) in the Webmaster Center control panel, despite the fact that our servers have never been located outside the UK. It seems a little random.
On the plus side, we're number 1 in Bing.it searchesfor our chosen terms! Shame we can't accept orders from there, really...
Any other suggestions in case we're in the 20% and Geographic Meta Tags and an HTML Lang tag don't do the trick for us? We've been out of UK results for months and months now, it's quite stressful.
Bing prefer the websites hosted in America.... sites like www.freshsoles.us are found in google but not in bing.
