The San Mateo County Office of Education's main functions are: Support and Regulatory The Office of Education provides support and monitoring to school districts in a number of areas including: business management, financial auditing, data processing, payroll accounting, human resources, legal services, school district boundaries, state financial standards, and teacher credential registration. Educational Leadership and Coordination Over 9,000 school personnel are provided resources and staff training each year. Coordination and leadership are provided in bilingual education and English as a second language, curriculum, educational information, library, management, media and technology, school attendance and review, special education, vocational education, and staff development. Direct Student Instruction Direct instruction is provided for severely disabled children, wards of the Juvenile Court, youth for whom the regular educational opportunities provided by school districts are not effective, elementary students enrolled in Outdoor Education, high school and adult students in vocational training through the Regional Occupational Program, and other special groups.
