Troops launched an attack targeting terror bunker defences in general area Navatkulam and by intercepting LTTE radio transmission confirmed that one terrorist was killed and another suffered injuries. Separately, 5 more LTTE terrorists were killed when the troops attacked LTTE bunker defences in general area Thunukkai.

Meanwhile, 5 LTTE terrorists were killed and 6 others suffered injuries in a confrontation took place in general area Palamoddai. 2 soldiers also suffered injuries in this incident.

Separately, one soldier suffered injuries exploding anti-personnel mines in general area Palamoddai and another injured in separate confrontation in general area south of Kalvilan.

Kiriibbanweva

According to reports, four LTTE terrorists were reported either killed or wounded in clashes sparked in general area north of Janakapura. In a separate clash reported in north of Kiriibbawewa area, three more LTTE terrorists reported either killed or wounded during day hours yesterday, military added.

Separately, 63 anti-personnel mines were unearthed by the troops engaged in mine clearing operations, north of Janakapura and Kiriibbanwewa areas.

Meanwhile, troops captured few warlike items including hand grenades, while conducting a clearing operation in the recently liberated areas north of Kiriibbanwewa. Ten hand grenades, one T-56 magazine, one pouch, six meal packets were also among the items found.

SLA thrashes LTTE offensive attempt; over 20 terrorists killed - Vavuniya

Sri Lankan Army thrashed an LTTE offensive attempt in general area west of Kalvilan in Vavuniya front killing over 20 LTTE terrorists and injuries many others this afternoon, 5 August, the latest information received from the Vavuniya battlefront said.

According to the available sources, hours long fighting ensued between LTTE terrorists and security forces lasted till 8.00 PM and troops have retaliated with Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers (MBRL) and artillery.

Military raids Muhamalai LTTE forward defences: 5 terrorists killed, 25 injured - Jaffna

Security forces operating at the Northern forward defences at Muhamalai, forced into LTTE bunker positions during a multi-pronged offensive launched this morning (August 6) at around 2.30., killing 5 terrorists and injuring 25 others.

According to Army, the rapid military incursion was launched in seven flanks as terrorists were caught in surprise which left many terrorists scattered at the battlefront, also forcing LTTE to abandon its bunker positions. Intense fighting lasted half an hour, till 3a.m., inflicting heavy damages to LTTE, while 3 soldiers have reportedly sustained injuries due to anti-personnel (AP) mine explosion, security sources said.

The troops have returned to initial positions following the swift raid; military said further adding that LTTE transmission experienced congestion with pleas for reinforcement and casualty evacuations.

JAFFNA: VALIANT TROOPS, stormed LTTE Forward Defence Line (FDL) positions on the MUHAMALE bottleneck early this morning (6) at about 2.30 a.m. from seven different flanks killing at least five Tigers and injuring about twenty-five more.

The half-an hour long lightning attack on the LTTE front lines took the LTTE by surprise and made terrorists run in all directions in panic as troops broke in.

LTTE laid anti personnel mines along their defence lines exploded as the troops went on assaulting enemy positions with the intention of causing maximum damage to the LTTE. Explosion of a few mines inflicted injuries to three brave soldiers who were later evacuated to hospital.

Hurried LTTE radio transmissions were busy seeking SOS help for reinforcements from their fellow-terrorists in KILINOCHCHI and MULLAITIVU.

Troops of Sri Lanka Army 59 division on Saturday (August 16) captured one of the largest training camps of the LTTE known as Jeevan base located in the Mullaittivu jungle. According to the defence sources, the captured terror camp had been used by the LTTE for years to train terrorists in guerrilla warfare. The camp is located 10 km northwest of Kokkuttoduvai and about 1.5 km west of the southwestern edge of the Nayaru lagoon.
The camp has 100 underground bunkers, 4 buildings, 25 lavatories and two concrete bunkers.
