RIMM: Dissident Jaguar Claims Backing From 8% Of Holders

Research In Motion shares are gaining ground this morning after the Wall Street Journal reported that Canadian activist investor Jaguar Financial claims it now has support from institutional holders representing 8% of the company's shares in its call for the company to consider strategic alternatives.

Jaguar has previously called for the company to consider putting itself - or at least its patent holdings - up for sale. The investment firm it is seeking additional support, and is in talks with other institutional investors in the company.

RIMM this morning is up 68 cents, or 2.9%, to $23.91.
