SAN FRANCISCO (AP) >> Candlestick Park will become the site of a large “urban outlet” shopping center.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1vkjPUC ) that under a new deal to be announced Monday, homebuilder Lennar Corp. and retail developer Macerich will work on the project together. It will include shops, restaurants, movie theaters, a concert venue, hotel as well as 6,000 homes.
Candlestick Park — where the city’s beloved Giants and 49ers celebrated some of their greatest triumphs — closed in August after more than 50 years.
Demolition of the storied venue is expected to begin this winter.
The retail center is slated to open in 2017.
