Cummins Is Redefining Efficiency With The Introduction Of ADEPT™ Continued Product Enhancements, And The 2017 ISX15 Engine And Single Module Aftertreatment System

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) will reveal innovative solutions that redefine efficiency for on-highway truck customers in North America. Cummins will not only showcase today’s broad lineup of diesel and natural gas engines, but will also be unveiling the 2017 ISX15 and Single Module aftertreatment system at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, March 26-28.

Beyond the product hardware being showcased at MATS, Cummins is introducing ADEPT™ technology for the ISX15 – a suite of innovative electronic engine features capable of delivering up to a 3 percent improvement in fuel economy. Cummins complete system integration is on display with products from Cummins Emission Solutions, Fuel Systems, Turbo Technologies, Filtration and New and ReCon® Parts showcased in the Cummins booth (#30035).

“Cummins lineup of engines, from the ISV5.0 to the flagship, big-bore ISX15, represents the broad range of power options, well suited to meet customers’ specific needs,” stated Amy Boerger, Vice President – North American Engine Business. “Cummins products are demonstrating leading fuel efficiency, proven durability and superior performance that help enable our customers’ success across the diverse applications they operate.”

2015 ISX15 Enhancements
Cummins is continuing to bring customer focused innovation to the market as soon as the technology is ready by delivering continuous enhancements to the 2015 ISX15. Cummins is building on the leading fuel economy, proven reliability and big-bore performance of the ISX15 to enhance operational efficiency and productivity for customers operating across a wide range of duty cycles. The 15-liter big-bore advantage, coupled with the proven air handling capability of the VGT™ Turbocharger, results in class-leading low-end torque, delivering performance at low rpms and maintaining longer operation in the “sweet spot.” For customers seeking maximum fuel efficiency, the ISX15 SmartAdvantage™ Powertrain continues to demonstrate fuel-economy leadership, superior driveability and ease of operation, with availability at all leading truck OEMs, and customer adoption growing rapidly in the market.

Innovative product developments will also offer customers enhanced uptime and lower total cost of ownership. The 2015 ISX15 now features NanoNet® media lube filtration for best-in-class particle removal, capacity and cold-flow ability, delivering superior protection and filter life. Also, Cummins has extended the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) cleaning interval to 400,000 miles for line-haul applications that average greater than 5.5 mpg, which provides added reduction in overall total cost of ownership for customers.

ADEPT Technology
Cummins ADEPT technology is a new suite of electronic features that will deliver fuel-economy gains of up to 3 percent initially for ISX15 customers operating with automated manual transmissions. ADEPT utilizes load-, speed- and grade-sensing technology to initiate adjustments to speed, power and transmission gear to take advantage of vehicle momentum for better fuel economy. The first package of ADEPT includes two features: SmartCoast and SmartTorque2 (ST2). SmartCoast operates when the vehicle is coasting downhill by disengaging the driveline and returning the engine to idle to reduce drag, conserve vehicle momentum and, ultimately, improve fuel economy. ST2 utilizes the same torque management intelligence first introduced on the SmartAdvantage Powertrain to help eliminate unnecessary downshifts and keep the engine operating in the most fuel-efficient “sweet spot.” The first ADEPT package will be available in summer 2015, and customers will be able to upgrade as future packages are released.

2017 ISX15 And Single Module Aftertreatment System
Cummins is excited to showcase innovative future technologies by unveiling the 2017 ISX15 and Single Module aftertreatment system. The 2017 ISX15, with a horsepower range from 400 hp to 605 hp (298-451 kW), will feature two distinct optimized designs for customers, with one targeted for customers seeking maximum fuel economy and the other for premium- and high- performance-oriented fleets. Design updates to the ISX15 for 2017 include a more responsive and efficient turbocharger, further optimization for downspeeding, integrated ADEPT technology and continued reduction in parasitic loss. Cummins will continue to push the envelope on extending maintenance intervals on the 2017 ISX15 and validate the technology with nearly 9 million miles of real-world experience – the most testing of any product launch to date. This the equivalent of making 4,000 trips coast-to-coast.

Another key feature of the 2017 ISX15 engine system is the introduction of the innovative Single Module aftertreatment system from Cummins Emission Solutions. This new aftertreatment system for 2017 is the result of customer-driven design, as the system will provide customers up to a 60 percent reduction in size and space claim, up to a 40 percent reduction in weight and enhanced efficiencies thanks to advancements in catalyst technologies and urea dosing solutions.

“Cummins is excited to unveil our 2017 ISX15 and Single Module aftertreatment system, showcasing our commitment to customer focused innovation,” stated Boerger. “We are ready for 2017, and will have a complete lineup of products from 5 liters to 15 liters that redefine how our customers experience leading efficiency backed by Cummins unmatched support.”
