Amid the combing operations against the Muslims that continued unabated in Dabhel - the Gujarat village in Navsari district, General Secretary of Jamiat-e-Ulama Hind Mehmood Madani after visiting the violence affected areas Wednesday said the nexus between the police and communal forces needed to be checked on urgent basis to avoid such type of incidents.

"There are elements in the police force who have communal mindset and are symathetic towards the communal forces. There is an urgent need to check this and break this ugly nexus", Mehmood Madani, who was in Dabhel on Wednesday, said, directly blaming them for the volatile situation in Gujarat.

He also said that the volatile communal situation in Gujarat has hampered India's image globally and urged the people to united against the communal forces.

"Whatever is happening in Gujarat, especially since 2001, is giving the country a bad name. There is a need for all of us to united against the communal forces and end this menace", he said.

"The communal forces are disturbing peace and harmony in Gujarat and other parts of country using cow slaughter as a tool. At some places, there are people for whome it is a profit-making business to harass traders in the name of cow slaughter, and safey of animals. This need to be checked", he said.

Violence broke out in Dabhel during Eid al-Adha festival when the police raided the village on October 07, 2014 after a tip-off about cow slaughter.

Police said it was attacked by the locals when they were on duty. The police said a mob attacked the police team and also held a couple of them hostage besides dispossessing a constable of his rifle.

Locals however denied the allegations and said that police resorted to firing without any provocation. It was only after police firing, in which two Muslim youths were injured, stones were pelted on the police.

"However", Mufti Irfan said, "Some Muslims came to the rescue of the police and also offered them their homes as shelter."

In the combing operations after the incident, police have detained over 30 people, including the teachers and clerics of Jamia Islamia Talimuddin, so far. On Tuesday, police also detained about 10 women but let them off after protest.
