Pleasanton Mayor to Deliver Annual State of the City Address

The annual State of the City luncheon is open to the public and will take place Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 12 p.m.

Information submitted by the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce:

After a resounding re-election victory in November, Mayor Jerry Thorne will take the stage to deliver what promises to be a very positive State of the City address. Not only has Pleasanton fully recovered from the Great Recession, but just a few short months ago, USA Today and Wall Street 24/7 ranked Pleasanton as the fourth best city in America in which to live, work and raise a family.

Mayor Thorne is expected to talk about City Council priorities for the next two years that will no doubt include robust Capital Improvement Plan expenditures, the East Pleasanton Specific Plan, important steps to help insulate Pleasanton from future droughts, the future of downtown including potential considerations for library and civic center improvements.

The luncheon is being sponsored by Heritage Bank of Commerce, Lawrence Livermore National Securities, Safeway, Sensiba San Filippo LLP and The Clorox Company.

Active in the League of California Cities, Mayor Thorne is also expected to talk about the League’s efforts to minimize state government’s interference with local governance, a concern that Thorne is passionate about.

Thorne was first elected to the City Council in a special election that took place June of 2005, and then re-elected by wide margins in November 2006 and again in 2010.

A retired executive from Hewlett Packard, he has lived in Pleasanton for more than 30 years with his wife Sandi.

During his HP career, Thorne held top management positions, with responsibility for a $200 million annual budget and a $40 million payroll. As manager of global procurement and facilities design, he often worked directly with the city of San Jose, including its mayor, and helped streamline services to make the city more business-friendly.

Before seeking a council seat, Thorne served 10 years on the Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Commission. He chaired the Bernal Community Parks task force and co-authored the Save Our Community Park initiative that resulted in the construction of three baseball fields on the Bernal property, the first part of a major new sports complex planned there.

The annual State of the City luncheon is open to the public and will take place Wednesday, February 18 at 12 noon at the DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasanton at The Club. To make a luncheon reservation visit www.pleasanton.org or call the Chamber offices (925) 846-5858.
