Megan Underwood sent us one of the last known photos of Cpl Nathan Cirillo, 24, at work, before he was attacked and killed at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Canada, on Wednesday by Muslim convert Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who was later himself shot and killed while attacking parliament.
Friday lunchtime saw the closure of Paddington Station in London due to a suspicious van. Lee Kozlowski posted this photo of the event on Twitter.
On Thursday, singer Alvin Stardust died aged 72 after a short illness. Robert Rawson sent us this photograph of the East End glam rocker at a recent performance.
As Hong Kong's students continue their protests amidst stumbling negotiations with the territory's authorities, democracy activists from around the world, who have helped organise their struggle, gather together. Jennifer Wu-Scharsig sent us this picture as an example of "democracy art".
Staying with Hong Kong, Keith Mulcahy sent us these images of the demonstrations from the island-city throughout the week. The crowds included those using costumes and props to make their point, as well as politician and journalist Claudia Mo.
Everton fans were targeted with tear gas fired by police during clashes in Lille's main square ahead of their Europa League match in the French city on Thursday. Greg Eckersley sent us this photo of the fans letting off flares.
On Wednesday, protesters in Vanuatu blocked the major highway marching 10km through the town to the public sea front area against the lack of action against climate change. Marke Lowen sent us this picture of the Vanuatu's deputy prime minister jumping into the sea in solidarity with the protesters.
On Thursday, sky-watchers in North America were treated to the fourth and final eclipse of the year. Ben Pickering sent us this picture of the partial solar eclipse.
