Mass Layoffs Reported at Sealy Mattress in Batavia, 2 St. Charles Country Clubs

Nearly 300 employees could be affected by the layoffs.

Two St. Charles country clubs will lay off 134 employees in January, according to a report filed by the Illinois Department of Employment Security last month.

Employees at Royal Fox Country Club and Royal Hawk Country Club will be affected by the layoffs, according to the labor department report. The country clubs were operated by Sequoia Gold, which was sold to ClubCorp in October, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The labor department report indicates layoffs will occur on Jan. 1 and will affect 81 employees at Royal Fox Country Club, at 4405 Royal and Ancient drives, and 53 employees at Royal Hawk, at 5N748 Burr Road,

The Chicago Tribune reported on Tuesday a ClubCorp spokeswoman did not have any additional details about the layoffs.

Klein Creek Country Club in Winfield and the Grove Country Club in Long Grove, both which were operated by Sequoia Gold before being sold to Club Corp., are also expected to layoff employees next month.

In addition, Sealy Mattress Company is expected to layoff 174 employees at its Batavia factory at 1030 East Fabyan Parkway, according to the IDES report. The layoffs are expected to start in early January.

“In July, Tempur Sealy International, Inc. informed employees of its intent to close its Batavia facility in early 2015. The decision to close the facility was made after careful analysis and evaluation of the company’s business needs. We are actively providing job transition support for these employees,” said Rick Maynard, Tempur Sealy spokesman.
