New York: A 32-year-old man who attacked rookie New York police officers with a hatchet was a self-radicalized recent convert to Islam who appeared to have intended to carry out a terror attack, police said Friday.
"We would describe him as self-radicalized," police commissioner Bill Bratton told reporters one day after the attack.
Police said Zale Thompson had looked at websites focused on designated terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS in Syria, and looked at a deadly attack in Canada, which occurred the day before.
