Germany stocks higher at close of trade

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Chemicals, Consumer & Cyclical and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 2.05% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index added 1.96%, and the TecDAX index added 1.43%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG), which rose 4.86% or 4.760 points to trade at 102.800 at the close. Meanwhile, Bayer AG NA (XETRA:BAYGN) added 4.06% or 5.000 points to end at 128.100 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ADSGN) was up 3.90% or 2.270 points to 60.540 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which fell 1.72% or 0.260 points to trade at 14.900 at the close. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) declined 1.38% or 0.390 points to end at 27.840 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DBKGn) was down 0.63% or 0.165 points to 26.125.

The top performers on the MDAX were Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which rose 4.91% to 94.000, MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (XETRA:MTXGn) which was up 4.07% to settle at 85.220 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (XETRA:SY1G) which gained 4.05% to close at 56.230.

The worst performers were Aareal Bank AG (XETRA:ARLG) which was down 3.58% to 33.580 in late trade, Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which lost 2.42% to settle at 48.780 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 1.82% to 11.065 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (XETRA:DRWG_p) which rose 5.48% to 86.810, Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which was up 4.56% to settle at 99.340 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which gained 3.53% to close at 22.000.

The worst performers were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which was down 2.44% to 7.519 in late trade, QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which lost 1.86% to settle at 1.792 and Evotec AG O.N. (XETRA:EVTG) which was down 1.59% to 3.709 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 552 to 187 and 12 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) rose to all time highs; rising 4.86% or 4.760 to 102.800. Shares in Bayer AG NA (XETRA:BAYGN) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.06% or 5.000 to 128.100. Shares in MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (XETRA:MTXGn) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.07% or 3.330 to 85.220. Shares in Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (XETRA:SY1G) rose to all time highs; rising 4.05% or 2.190 to 56.230. Shares in Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) fell to 5-year lows; down 2.44% or 0.188 to 7.519. Shares in CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) rose to all time highs; rising 3.53% or 0.750 to 22.000.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 19.61.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.81% or 10.50 to $1290.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March fell 0.67% or 0.31 to hit $46.00 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract rose 1.14% or 0.56 to trade at $49.08 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.79% to 1.1272, while EUR/GBP fell 0.89% to 0.7503.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 94.92.
