UniCredit bank on Thursday
denied it is in talks to end its shareholders' pact with
Mediobanca.
"As far as UniCredit is concerned there has been no
consideration of any breaking of the pact nor any discussions of
the kind," a spokesman for UniCredit bank told ANSA.
UniCredit holds 16% of Mediobanca, which has capitalization
of seven billion euros.
Mediobanca holds 13.5% of Assicurazioni Generali, which has
capitalization of 28.5 billion euros and is one of the largest
insurance companies in Europe and the second-largest worldwide
by revenue.
Any breakdown of the shareholders' pact could make
Mediobanca susceptible to a hostile takeover, analysts said.
