Hong Kong crisis: Leung blames 'external forces' for movement, protesters deny charge

Hong Kong: Hong Kong leader CY Leung on Monday blamed the influence of 'external forces' as the reason behind the pro-democracy movement in the city, which has entered into its third week.

During a television interview, Leung said that the protests are now “out of hand for the people who started it, for people who planned it, for people (who) scripted it," the CNN reported.

The comment from Leung came a day before talks are scheduled to be held between student leaders and Hong Kong officials which will be aired live. 

The claim has been denied by pro-democracy activists.

Protest leader Joshua Wang took to Twitter to deny the charges and tweeted, “My personal connection with foreign countries would be: South Korean cellphone, U.S. computer, Japanese Gundam action figures. All of which were of course, made in China."

Tens of thousands of protesters, mainly students, have been protesting demanding complete democracy.

They are demanding complete freedom from China to select candidates for the upcoming 2017 elections.

China permits a candidate to stand for the polls only after they are screened by a 1200 member committee which also comprise loyalists.
