The Palm Springs Film Festival will honor “Gone Girl” star Rosamund Pike with its Breakthrough Performance Award at its awards gala on Jan. 3, 2015.
Pike receives the award for her critically-acclaimed performance as Amy Dunne in David Fincher’s “Gone Girl,” a role for which she is garnering significant award season buzz.
“Rosamund Pike perfectly taps into Gillian Flynn’s complex character from the novel ‘Gone Girl’ bringing to life the privileged, manipulative and calculating Amy Dunne. It’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role,” said film festival chairman Harold Matzner. “For this outstanding performance it is an honor to present her with the 2015 Breakthrough Performance Award, Actress.”
Pike will join previously announced honorees Julianne Moore, Eddie Redmayne and J.K. Simmons at the 26th annual fest. The award brings a touch of Oscar pedigree with it, as past winners Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Hudson and Lupita Nyong’o went on to win Academy Awards after receiving the Breakthrough Performance Award.
The announcement caps a successful week for Pike, as it was revealed Tuesday that she was close to settling on her next major film role, starring opposite Charlie Hunnman in “The Mountain Between Us.”
