ICYMI: Netflix’s ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ Teaser Dropped Over The Weekend

Last November, we reported that Netflix streaming was to adapt Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events as one of their own original shows. Since Netflix announced its acquisition, however, there’s been no word of casting or episode count of the live-action adaptation — not even a vague release date (i.e. “Coming in 2016”) has been uttered. Still without a date (or even an IMDb page), the Internet — specifically, a random YouTube user who’s a fan of Eleanora Poe — gave fans of the book series a little something to be excited about over the holiday weekend with a creepy, crawly teaser trailer.

Not for the squeamish, the trailer features some key elements from the 13-book franchise, which inspired the 2004 movie of the same name starring Jim Carrey. Many millennials who followed the Baudelaire orphans through all their trials and tribulations against the scheming Count Olaf might recognize young Klaus’ eyeglasses perched on a stack of books or the Lachrymose Leeches from The Wide Window, among other mysterious trinkets. What we’re really excited about, however, is who will be playing the scheming Olaf, whose shadow emerges over the series’ infamous eye symbol at the very end of the trailer.

There’s still no word about when the series is heading to the streaming platform, but you can bet we’re ready to binge it as soon as it’s released.

UPDATE: A Netflix rep reveals to Variety that the trailer was just a fan-made video after all: “This was not released from Netflix and not anything official.”
