Whirlpool Pride Network Raises Money To Help Homeless LGBT Youth In Chicago

The Whirlpool Pride Network’s annual fundraiser in Chicago over Pride weekend is putting roughly $4,000 in the hands of Project Fierce Chicago. The organization formed in 2013 to help homeless LGBT youth in the Windy City, and Whirlpool Price co-lead Chris Rice says it’s estimated that 40% of the homeless teens in Chicago are LGBT.

This marked the first year that the event at the World of Whirlpool in downtown Chicago did not benefit the OutCenter in Benton Harbor.

The Whirlpool Pride Network was established in 1999 as the employee resource group for LGBT and straight allied employees of Whirlpool Corporation. Half of PRIDE members are straight. Through the efforts of the organization, Whirlpool has been nominated for three Out & Equal Outie Awards and was the 2012 recipient of the PFLAG Straight4Equality Workplace Award. The Benton Harbor-based appliance maker has earned a perfect 100 Human Rights Campaign score each of the past 11 years.
