The Richmond Community Schools board of trustees accepted the resignation of a Richmond High School teacher Wednesday night amid an investigation into an alleged improper relationship between a teacher and a student.

In an addendum to the board’s meeting agenda posted shortly before the board met in executive session at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, high school math teacher Joshua Brameier was listed as having been on administrative leave before his resignation.

Brameier’s resignation was accepted during the board’s regular meeting as one of several “consent items” that were presented to the board but not discussed.

Later in the meeting during a period for questions from the media, Aleasia Stewart, executive director of human resources for RCS, said Brameier was placed on administrative leave Jan. 20 and he resigned Jan. 23. The resignation was effective immediately.

Last week, Stewart confirmed to the Palladium-Item that school officials were conducting an investigation into an alleged improper relationship between a teacher and a student.

At the time, Stewart said the teacher had been placed on administrative leave.

Stewart declined to answer further questions about the situation at that time and again declined to comment about the state of the investigation when reached Tuesday.

When asked Wednesday night if Brameier was the subject of that investigation, interim RCS Superintendent Betty Poindexter said, “You have the facts. He resigned.”

Poindexter said the matter will not be reported to law enforcement authorities.

In addition to teaching math, Brameier was an assistant football coach at RHS during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
