Tottenham complete signing of Cologne defender Kevin Wimmer for £4.3m

  • Kevin Wimmer will join Tottenham from Cologne in a £4.3million deal 
  • Wimmer confirmed move after his side's draw with Wolfsburg on Saturday
  • Mauricio Pochettino could be in the market for another defender too
  • Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches are both likely to leave this summer 

Tottenham have completed the £4.3million signing of Cologne defender Kevin Wimmer and the player will officially join the club in June.

The Austrian defender confirmed the move after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg, saying: ‘I go to Tottenham, it is the next step in my development.

'I don’t mind whether they make the Europa League. I go to Tottenham, to go to the next level.’

Tottenham may yet add another centre-back as they are looking to offload Younes Kaboul with Watford and Everton showing interest while Vlad Chiriches is keen to go to Italy.


Etienne Capoue, Benjamin Stambouli, Paulinho, Moussa Dembele, Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor will also be offloaded if they can find buyers. 

Marseille are interested in Stambouli while Aston Villa are keen on Adebayor.

Villa want to keep Christian Benteke but he is attracting interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Roma and Wolfsburg.
