THE Department of Road Traffic is set to undergo an $8.3m mordernisation process that will improve the country’s motor vehicle licensing systems, officials said yesterday.
This comes after Data Torque, a New Zealand based company, and local partner Network Security Consultant Group signed the relevant agreements to advance the project yesterday.
Transport and Aviation Minister Glenys Hanna Martin said the process is the first time the government department will undergo an overhaul.
“Over the years, there’s been a great deal of tinkering with the operations and various products, but this is the first that we have had an absolutely radical intervention in terms of overhauling the operational procedures of the Road Traffic Department,” she said.
Minister of State for Finance Michael Halkitis said the project would lead to great improvements for the agency.
“The Road Traffic Mordernisation Project will streamline the Road Traffic Department’s operations, realise significant cost savings, strengthen management controls, generate increased revenues, facilitate integration, particularly in the area of information sharing between the Road Traffic Department and its internal and external stakeholders,” he said.
The process is also expected to minimise fraud in the issuance of licences.
Data Torque is expected to configure and implement software and hardware for the department. The company will also train staff at the Department of Road Traffic.
The project is set to begin soon.
